Life was a shit-show from the start for Asena having been born to two people who were more interested in themselves than raising their child. It wasn't long after her first birthday that her father walked away from their family (if you can call it that) and never returned. Her mother never added up to much and spent the majority of her time working for the Heart gang in the sex trade, doing whatever it took to keep food on the table. She wasn't a loving mother but she cared enough to keep her daughter fed and clothed.
Unfortunately because of her mother's chosen profession, Asena was raised around some rather shady people, most of which were gang members. The girl was quick to pick up on their personalities and developed a mouth much to her mother's dismay and before long she was learning to fight with other children oftentimes coming out on top. By the time she was ten, she had already gathered a few other kids together to start her own gang! She was so proud of herself too, going around and pickpocketing people, basking in the glory of a good haul though it was never much. Her mother was constantly scolding her, begging her to be better, only for the words to go in one ear and out the other. Why would she ever stop? These people who loomed over her mother may as well be her family now and she wanted to grow up to be just like them.
Or so she thought.
Asena was thirteen when her mother finally decided she was done with being used by these people, she wanted out. She was adamant that she was done with all of this and things seemed to go over smoothly with the gang, a little too smoothly. Asena had left for the day only to return to an empty home, her mother was gone. Rumors began to circulate that her mother was killed for her organs and because of that something inside the girl snapped. She wanted revenge for her mother, for her entire life that was wasted idolizing these monsters, for everything they could have had and didn't.
She wandered the streets for weeks, starving and begging for food before she was picked up by the military and taken to a military-run orphanage. She hated it, the people, the other kids, the food, the beds, everything. She didn't want any part in anything they had to offer, and her attitude only began to get worse. She was angry all the time, she had no real friends, and she really just wanted to be left alone. The turning point for her was when she was enrolled in the military academy, she began to find her place in the world, the structure they offered was exactly what she needed in her life. She was a very fast learner and proved herself over and over eventually graduating at the top of her class and starting her military career.
She moved through the ranks quickly and was eventually put into the secret service after proving her worth on many occasions. She mostly serves as a bodyguard now to the rich pricks at the top and that is perfectly fine with her but that goal of revenge is still sitting in the back of her mind after all these years.
