Guidebook to Blood & Bone
  Back    Next   About UsMandatory Reading
Here is where you can find generic information about us, including the site's premise and overarching plot that you will be able to take part in if you join. Most of the information here is for OOC knowledge, including what to expect when creating new theads, as well as our guidelines regarding images and graphics.
Site Premise
Welcome to Blood & Bone, a site that's a mixture of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and virus outbreak/survival. We're a mature, intermediate-advanced writing site that deals with darker themes, action-based plotting, and character development. Our site welcomes a variety of different roleplayers, from people that enjoy writing close character relationships and dynamics, to people that enjoy following along with the mystery of an overarching site plot. While we've infused the site with a wide variety of staff-made lore, we also encourage player writing and character development to help develop the overall site, and allow for the site's lore to change and shift as the community grows. There's nothing more important to us than allowing the in-game world to grow and change along with the players' choices. It makes things alive and exciting.
Overarching Plot
It's the year 2095. 85 years have passed since the virus DraC-2 first appeared in society, ravaging the world and infecting humans indiscriminately. The consequences of being infected by the virus were not immediate, but once the true nature of the virus was revealed, pandemonium swept through the world. The Infected, virus-mutated humans that had uncanny similarities to classical vampires, began to tear down the fragility of society in massive strides until nothing was left. Stronghold became the last known surviving city in western North America, ruled over by a dystopian Military thirsty for control and power. Records were lost or destroyed over the dozens of years, and people of today's post-apocalyptic world do not even remember what life was like before the outbreak. The Infection is something they have learned is a part of life.

But no one can remain complacent in an ever-changing world. Over the last eight decades, the virus proved to be an ever-mutating form, changing the Infected into different levels of threat and danger. The most recent discovery has been kept a secret by the Military: a dangerous secret that threatens to tear the very fabrics of society down to its roots once more. But that secret is not the only thing threatening the very survival of humanity. Something even darker and more dangerous is looming over the horizon, and time will tell whether or not humanity can survive its next greatest challenge... Or die trying.

No one is safe.
IC Location Ratings
Every IC location that you can write in has a rating based on how likely it is for Infected to be in that certain area. The ability to NPC Infected in your posts are affected by this rating, as well as the chance of staff-controlled events or challenges, and forum-generated random events. We created this system in hopes that it would enhance plot writing, and help you feel like your character is living in a violent and unpredictable world. Listed below are the different ratings that can be found on every IC location, as well as a quick description on what they entail. Please take each into account when making threads.
Quarantined
IC locations that are marked as Quarantined are usually completely free from Infected. This means that Infected can be played in these areas through Staff-controlled NPC events or challenges. Infected can be NPC'd by normal players with discretion, but forum-generated random events are nonexistent here. These locations are recommended for threads that are planned out, or have a plot that players don't want ruined with Infected attacks.
Patrolled
IC locations that are marked as Patrolled are generally free from Infected due to regular patrolling by armed officers, but attacks may still sometimes occur here. Regular players are free to NPC Infected in their threads, and staff may still occasionally post events or challenges here. Forum-generated random events are nonexistent here. These locations are recommended for threads that players may wish to include Infected in.
Unsecure
IC locations that are unsecure have no Millitary presence, and are generally overrun with Infected. Regular players are free to NPC Infected in their threads, but staff will usually not post events or challenges here. Instead, forum-generated random events are activated in these locations. This means that random events involving Infected may occasionally appear in people's threads. If a random event happens in a thread, players are required to react to it. These locations are recommended for threads that aren't planned out, or threads that players are okay with being derailed by Infected.
Images & Graphics
This site is welcoming to both artists as well as people without an artistic flare. We want to provide the opportunity for you to show off who you are as a writer, as well as have fun with writing your character. We allow people to make their own graphics so long as they follow the guidelines listed below. The most important thing is keeping graphics SFW, as well as ensuring they don't break the site in any way. Staff always reserve the right to ask someone to change or remove their graphics if they break one of the requirements.

  • Images cannot contain graphic nature of any kind; keep it SFW.
  • Avatars should be 250px x 350px in size.
  • Hover graphics are prohibited; they're too difficult for mobile users.
  • Custom post tables are allowed, however they cannot be more than 600px in width. If they're too large or break the site's skin, you will be asked to change or remove the post template.
  • HTML is allowed in the larger sections of your profile, however like post tables they cannot exceed certain sizes, and you will be asked to change or remove them if they do.
  • In-Depth Personality and Player Information sections cannot be more than 895px in width. Quick History and Extra Information sections cannot be more than 400px in width.
Group Colours
Listed below are the different colours for each of the groups that your character can be sorted into upon acceptance. Posts, as well as profiles, are colour-coded based on these group colours. You are free to use them as you will if you wish to colour any of your own CSS based on your character's group. For each group section, listed first is the hex code for each colour, then the class to use if you want text to be coloured, and then finally the class to use if you want the background to be coloured.

Post Prefixes
Listed below are the available prefixes you can use when creating new threads. They're essentially tags for threads, and are visible in areas that show threads such as in boards, on the index, and even in your threadlogs. We encourage you to use them as much as possible where appropriate, but they are by no means a requirement. The only ones that are really necessary to use are Mature and Content Warning, but even this can be avoided so long as you tag [M] or [CW] in the title of your thread.
Open
An Open thread is available for anyone to reply to, rather than being reserved for a specific player. Please respect if the original poster has a limit to how many characters can join.
Private
A Private thread is reserved for specific players, and you should not post in one unless you're the one the thread is meant for.
Mature
A Mature thread is one that contains NSFW content, such as sexual content, mild violence, and more. This prefix supersedes Open and Private prefixes, and should always be used if necessary.
Content Warning
A Content Warning thread is one that contains content that may be disturbing to some, such as graphic violence and gore, sensitive topics, and more. This prefix supersedes Open, Private, and Mature prefixes, and should always be used if necessary.
Random Event
A Random Event thread is one created by the Staff Team with the premise of using NPCs to create an interesting plotline. Usually counts as being Open unless otherwise stated.
Challenge
A Challenge thread is one created by the Staff Team with the premise of creating a thread directly tied in with the main site plot. Usually counts as being Open unless otherwise stated.
Military
A Military thread is one that involves the Military specifically. It can be used as replacement of an Open or Private prefix at the players' discretion.
Civilian
A Civilian thread is one that involves the Civilian specifically. It can be used as replacement of an Open or Private prefix at the players' discretion.
Jabberwockies
A Jabberwockies thread is one that involves the Jabberwockies specifically. It can be used as replacement of an Open or Private prefix at the players' discretion.
Eclipse
An Eclipse thread is one that involves the Eclipse specifically. It can be used as replacement of an Open or Private prefix at the players' discretion.
