"What are you doing?"
"We're recording sir, just for fun."
"Haven't you considered doing something else on your free time? What are you doing, keep that off my face, geez. I haven't shaved in weeks."
"You still look good though, sir."
"Hah, you're just pulling my leg. Go scram, find someone else to bother."
"How about an interview sir? Just a short one?"
"I hardly think you'd find my answers interesting enough, private. But go on."
"How did you decide to go into the military, sir?"
"Ohh a tough question from the get-go. Alright, I'll entertain you. The Geoffs had always been part of the military, way before the world even has turned to shit. A career in the military was almost always guaranteed for all the sons in the family, whether they liked it or not.
When the world has gone to shit, my grandpops was the only Geoff left alive. And as was his father before him, he took up his oaths and joined the cause. And just like him, my father joined the ranks. It didn't take long until he became the Big Boss of everybody, decorated Colonel and all. Then, when it was opportune, he got himself some trophy wife. And out came yours truly."
"How's it like growing up in your house, sir? Must've been grand."
"Well, it was grand. Except, childhood was nothing more than a competition against me and my older brother who was only lucky enough to be born five years earlier. Can't say he's always the better of me though. I am after all, more handsome."
"What was your first rank, sir? Rumors have it that you got in easy, sir."
"Oh, shut your trap, Doyle. I worked my ass from the ground up. I didn't like getting privileges from my Pops. I thought back then, if he was forcing me into the Military then we'll both be doing it my way. No hand-me-downs from my brother either."
"But why not, sir? I mean, respectfully, your life could've been easier that way."
"Well, true. But then it wouldn't have been fun. The career wasn't entirely my choice, but I wanted to achieve stuff on my own, and not just because I'm related to the Big Man."
"Ask him!"
"No, you ask!"
"Come now, privates. Spill it. Break time won't last forever."
"Have you ever killed one of.. them, sir? the Infected?"
"Ah shit, going dark are we? Fine. Of course, I did. Plenty of 'em. But not on my own. This is why we're drilling you all as a team. Nobody can ever really take on one of those guys solo. Unless you have a death wish that is."
"You're already a high-ranking officer, Captain, Sir. Why are you still joining the raids?"
"Well, son, I can't be pen-pushing somewhere safe in the barracks while you lot march to your deaths right? I've been in this shit show for more than a decade now and from what I've experienced, if I don't get anything to do with it, I ain't signing up goddamn death certificates."
"Now that's enough of that. Over there, see the Lieutenant? Go bother her."
