For Silas, nothing in life was worse than abandonment by the one he once considered to be his hero: North. Not struggling on and off with illness for well over 15 years, the death of his mother, or contracting the virus which left him in his current state could compare to that betrayal, and the realization that ultimately, heroes do die.

Whomever he once was is nearly unrecognizable now. While not cruel or averse to socializing, Silas suffers from distinct trust and abandonment issues that constantly war with each other. Being alone is terrifying and yet allowing someone in close enough runs the risk of being harmed once again. Beyond beneficial relationships he occasionally grows attached to, Silas tends to keep most people at a distance for their sake more than his.

His poor regulations of his emotions has always plagued him. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and tends to react very poorly to reminders of his brother. Whether intentional or not, his response is explosive and, more often than not, deadly. This, along with his increased impulsivity while experiencing high emotions has led Silas to prefer the life of a drifter on his own. He has no need to fear his fellow infected, after all, and time alone leaves him plenty of space to ponder his condition.

He longs to be human again, and yet, cannot deny the benefits the virus has given him. Even he, in spite of his attempts at optimism, cannot lie and say he is no longer disgusting or shocked by the grisliest parts of his existence, despite knowing in his heart any normal man would.

But then, he isn’t a normal man anymore, is he?

Ever the hopeful one, Silas has tried his best not to let his very deep, pronounced anger with North and discomfort in unfamiliar situations from turning him into a cold-hearted cynic.

He is, if nothing else, dedicated and loyal to who and what he believes in, refusing to bend or compromise on those beliefs. If North and the rest of the world have no standards, then he at least can manage them. Strong-willed. His ideals include a kind of altruism rarely seen, in his opinion. He has found there is far more benefit in coming together collectively than resorting to animalistic sabotage. Why, even after the end of the world, humanity cannot realize that is far beyond him and constantly a point of frustration between his pessimism and the desire to be everything this world is not.

All the same, he has elected to be everything North was not, as though to spite the brother who left him all that time ago.
Quick History

His father was long gone by the time he was welcomed into the world on September 6th, 1979.

As a child, he tended to cling to his brother, North, who was five years his elder rather than their mother.

He put himself into his school work rather than focus on the difficulties at home and preferred to keep his troubles to himself.

More often than not, though repressed emotions would explode at school, which occasionally caused him to get into trouble.

Generally, however, he was a happy child, trying his best to balance the expectations of those around him, though no one’s opinion was as important as North’s.

He was 13 when North accidentally knocked a girl up and fled to a neighboring city, leaving him behind with their mother.

Following North’s disappearance, Silas falls ill and spends a great deal of time fighting bouts of sickness of varying degrees of severity.

Though still sick, he puts his remaining energy and anger at North into making his mother’s life as comfortable as possible.

His mother dies when he is 16, leaving him to fend officially fend for himself. He does what he can to get by, often relying on the kindness of others.

After signing up to be one of the many test subjects for the new Draculin, in hopes it will ease his illness, he contracts the virus and develops dangerous signs of genetic mutation.

The time between then and finally mutating into a Level V is something Silas does not remember in great detail (and does not wish to). What he does know is that at some point, he received a large, long scar along his lower back, though he does not remember why or how it ended up there.

Now, he spends his life as a drifter, wary of most people and yet, all the same, willing to help those who need it, determined not to be anything like his father and brother before him.
