002. PERSONALITY
COMPETETIVE
Life is a game, and Gabriel plays to win. He’s spent his whole life never feeling good enough, overshadowed by a brilliant older brother and a father more interested in his career than his children, and so he’s got a desperate need to prove himself. He’s always interested in anything – or anyone – that offers a challenge, though he’s a bad loser with a bit of a temper to accompany it.
OBSESSIVE
Gabriel has problems putting anything down and turning off. A perfectionist and a workaholic, Gabriel will spend long hours planning and re-planning missions, going over scenarios long after he’s committed them to memory. Sleep has always been something elusive, especially after he underwent the procedure to increase his resistance to source, so he often spends the long hours of the night unhealthily pouring over his latest focus.
AMBITIOUS
Gabriel is quick to seize any opportunity that might give him a step up in the world. He is unwilling to settle for second best and constantly strives for improvement, both in his own abilities and his standing in the world. The chances of him eventually getting himself in over his head are high, as he is arrogant in assessing his own abilities, but so far a combination of charisma, talent and blind luck has allowed him to scrape through each trial without serious injury.
DETACHED
A product of his upbringing and of his training, Gabriel does not fully connect to the world. Although he genuinely believes that the military does a necessary job protecting the citizens of Stronghold, and that the end justifies the means, some of what they do can be horrific and he copes by simply ignoring it. Deep down he knows he's not on the right side, but he’s never really faced up to the truth. He keeps most people at arm’s length, scared of getting too close and not sure that he deserves it, though wouldn’t hesitate to take a bullet for the handful he does care about.
HEDONISTIC
Although orders, and his career, will always come first, Gabriel will spend his down time seeking that next dopamine hit. He’s never felt content with life, and will try to fill the hole with whatever’s going. Alcohol, drugs, the closest warm body; distractions that are only a temporary fix, but seem good enough at the time. He’s an adrenaline junkie and is constantly seeking the next high, never feeling truly alive unless there’s something on the line he could lose.
