Heath had a rough life growing up, and that turbulent childhood shaped him into the man he is today, and left him with scars on his personality. Unlike many others in the Military, Heath didn't grow up in a Military family, with expectations for him to join Stronghold's regime — rather, it was the complete opposite. Poor family, running a small bar in the Spades Gang's territory, always strapped for cash when the gang members came around looking for payment for "keeping them safe". His parents's fear of the Jabberwockies was passed onto their son — which, later in life, manifested into hatred for what they'd done to his family. Growing up as a child fearful of his own shadow, for it might be the gang coming to beat him up, everything changed the moment Heath decided to sign up for the Military Academy, in hopes to protect his family and others like them.

The Military turned him into everything he, at the time, was not — hardened, jaded, and strong. Heath truly came into himself through the academy, and a newfound love and passion for what the Military did came to light. Some would say he was brainwashed — he would say he was saved. The collapse of humanity had occurred through poor management and weak leaders, but the Military had strengthened humanity through its hold on Stronghold. That was what he'd always wanted; to be strong and protect those that he cared about, through whatever means necessary. His hatred for the underbelly of the city only intensified through his training, and though done in secrecy, his desire to enact revenge on the Jabberwockies grew every day. He was in training the day his parents were murdered by the gang — that one event changed his life forever. He swore that he would rise through the ranks, and eliminate gang scum forever.

Heath changed. There was no room for love in his heart anymore — no room for weakness. He became the perfect loyal soldier, the Military's agenda embedded in every fiber of his being. But he was smart, too. He knew that skill could only get him so far, and so Heath crafted himself the perfect mask to make his way through life. To those that don't know him very well, they see a dedicated but charismatic officer built to please those around him. He's kind and warm, a smile that could light up the room. Those that work under him see a strong and capable leader, and they enjoy being under his command. Behind a web of lies, Heath comes out looking like a positive force that strives to make Stronghold a better place for its citizens. At face value, Heath is a good man — at least, that's what he wants people to see him as.

But that's not the true Heath. Beneath the surface, he's calculating and manipulative, using others for his own gains. He will stop at nothing to enact his revenge on the gang, and those that get in his way become pawns in his game of chess. He's brutal and powerful — commanding those under him with an iron fist; the perfect soldier. When his commanding officer betrayed him — selling his soul to the very gang Heath swore to destroy — he cut himself off completely from forever empathizing with others again. He realized the weakness in trusting others, when it was so easy for them to deceive him from the shadows. He will lie for his own gain, and it no longer matters to him who he hurts in the process. A dominant force, Heath simply takes and uses others — and has the power to back it up. The Lieutenant plays a good game, but his heart's no longer in it, and only time will tell if he'll ever open up to others again.
Quick History
Life before the Military     Age 0 — 20
Born to two parents that would be considered part of the poor class, Heath didn't grow up with a lot of money. His parents ran a small little bar in the Crossroads — Spades Gang territory. They were often forced to pay money to the gang for "protection" and being able to keep their business running in their territory. It left the small family with little money to spend outside of trying to keep the bar running. His parents feared the gang, and Heath grew up with that same fear that he would step out of line one day and piss the gang off.

Heath grew up with very little education and few friends, but that changed the moment he saw a poster for the Military Academy and decided to sign up. His parents were against it at first — don't anger the Jabberwockies! — but his attendance brought him to live in the Inner Citadel, ensuring the gang would never find out. For the first time in his life, Heath realized what it was like to live without fear. He became emboldened by the strong personalities of the rest of the recruits, and quickly fell into line through Military propaganda.

Unfortunately it was during this separation, when he was still in basics training, that he got the news his parents had been murdered by the gang. There was no explanation for it — they'd kept up on their monthly dues and did everything they could to keep a low profile.

Heath fell into a bad state from the news. He went back to the slums for a personal funeral for his family, and during the Security Branch's investigation, he ended up meeting a young officer by the name of Charles Holcombe. The man saw potential in Heath, and promised that he would take him under his wing — but Heath had to promise to keep his head held high and pass the academy with flying colours. So he did. He passed the final test and joined the Military officially in the same day, transferring himself to the Security Branch to work alongside his new mentor.
Life in the Military     Age 20+
Charles Holcome was only a few years older than Heath, but he'd already been in the Military long enough to make a name for himself. He taught Heath everything he needed to know about life in the Military, and even helped him improve on skills such as shooting and hand-to-hand combat. They became close friends both professionally as well as outside of work — Heath still remembers the time he was brought to Charles's home for the first time to meet his family.

That was the first time he met the man's son Colton, a young kid that reminded Heath of himself when he was younger. Charles's family welcomed him as if he was one of their own, and for the first time in many years, Heath had a family again. Heath went on to have a very lucrative career in the Military. He was praised for being the perfect soldier, even awarded the position of Lieutenant after his mentor, Charles, was given the position of Captain. All while putting on a grand show over the next couple decades, in secrecy, Heath continued to plot his revenge on the Spades Gang.

It was only within the last few years that Heath noticed something was off with his mentor. Disappearing without telling anyone where he was going, late night comms from the man's son, Colton, asking if he was still at his office. Heath also noticed how paperwork began to slip, and how many times he had to redo work that had previously been filled out by Charles. Heath figured the man was just going through a rough time and tried to offer support — only to be brusquely pushed aside and told to mind his own business.

It came to head one day when he received a frantic message from Charles's wife that their son, Colton, had gone missing. Considering he was a Military official's son, Heath immediately went into alert mode, knowing that it could easily have been the Jabberwockies or Eclipse that could have snatched him. Heath was immediately on the case, sending out his men to try and track the young man down. When no leads had been provided within two days of searching — even worse, Charles hadn't shown up to work in those two days either — Heath did the only thing he could think of: he began combing through Charles's personal information. Files, records, financial reports.

That's when he uncovered just how dirty his superior officer was. Gambling debts with the Spades Gang, along with drug purchases for both the man and his wife. Heath felt betrayed. He felt as though the man he'd looked up to for two decades had stabbed him directly in the back. Trust for others was immediately shattered, and without hesitation, Heath sent out his men to find the offending Captain and capture him. Heath sent an official report up the flag pole, and within the hour, Charles was found and brought in for questioning.

Heath couldn't look at the man — the traitor. He refused to be part of the investigation team. The only news he got of the man's fate was through an official report sent back down to him, notifying him that Charles had been relieved of his duties and, for the time being, he'd have to take over as Lieutenant. Only a day later, Heath received a comm from Charles's wife, confessing that the man had sold their son to the Jabberwockies in an attempt to pay off their debts.

The only thing Heath could see? Revenge.
Extra Information
Combat     Skilled
Through decades of being in the Military, Heath has honed many different combat skills, including hand-to-hand and shooting with a variety of firearms. Being considered as part of the 'police force' of Stronghold, Heath usually carries around a gun with him on patrols. However, he finds using his fists generally gets a better result, and less paperwork for him.
Origami     Learning
An unusual contrast to Heath's usual demeanor, within the past few years he picked up a fascination with the art of folding paper — otherwise known as origami. Considering there's no instructions for it anymore, Heath's teaching himself all by trial and error. He likes having his hands busy, and can usually be found in his office, folding paper into the next best thing.
Addiction     Nicotine
Stress from the job as a Military officer made him become addicted to the use of nicotine — aka, cigarettes. Thankfully it's an addiction supported by the Military, who have taken over the legal supply of cigarettes to those living in Stronghold. On particularly bad days, Heath can be found smoking an entire box of cigarettes in just a couple of hours.
