Not many breach Atlas' friendship circle. A naturally introspective person, Atlas keeps most of his thoughts to himself and gives no outward desire to foster close relationships with other people. To him, people, humans and others like him alike, are replaceable and fleeting, and he cares not to occupy himself with shallow activity and superficial enjoyment. This does not mean he does not desire friendship and comradery- moreso his criteria for friendship is different, emphasizing respect and loyalty over trust and companionship. Any challenge to his leadership, no matter how likeable the person is, would land them as an antagonist.
Even harder to reach is his romantic love. Before he became Infected, Atlas was a man of strong passion and emotion and his fierce love landed him in turbulent situations. The Infection wrung much of that feeling out, whether due to a physical biological or chemical change or the loss of helplessness and mortality. His love is still there, only buried under layers of cold ambition, one-track goals and an ego the size of the Stronghold. One can still see that Atlas is capable of love in his irascible anger, which exhibits itself in heated passion and undying loyalty. Unfortunately, it also manifests in jealousy, envy and, occasionally, obsession.
Atlas' cruel nature, fragile sense of loyalty to everyone but himself and unforgiving ire has earned him a plethora of enemies. As an Ace, he has already branded himself a villain to the Military, who have a stockpile of warrants out for his arrest. Thanks to his tendency to keep to the shadows, he has eluded capture, yet there are many in the organization who wish to see him executed or behind bars (no thanks to the sickening brutality of his "shows"). Other Jabberwockies are also considered antagonistic, as they compete for territory and resources. However, some of his most vicious enemies are those within the Spades, as his pitiless backstabbing and disregard for collateral have many believing him unfit for rule, or furious with personal injury inflicted by Atlas. If any were to have a hand in his downfall, it would be the gang he leads.
His past exists to him in motifs of black and white. A soccer ball, a dusty chessboard, soft chocolate candies that left dark, sticky residue on his milky fingers, small baggies housing fine white powders. The events of his past are unclear, yet the emotions attached are unmistakable: heat, rage, shame, pain.
THE DEEP SLEEP
He awoke with no recollection of his memory, naked, caked in blood and surrounded by Infected. He wandered the wilderness for weeks in this state, weakening as his blood cravings left him famished. A slave to his urges, he murdered a father-daughter drifter duo.
His bestial side forced him on his knees to ravage the corpses. His humanity made him hesitate, did what he hadn't in 85 years- retch in disgust. A battle raged between consciousness and instinct. It was on their bodies that he found a pass to a place called the "Stronghold". Perhaps there he would find answers.
Taking identity as the son, a boy named "Atlas Jones", he found the Stronghold easily. A cloaked, hooded figure, he was permitted into the walled fort.
He wandered the slums, collecting information with sharp ears and keen observation. Meanwhile, he tried to fight his urges in a struggle that left him feverish. For it felt good when he finally succumbed to his hunger. He was shocked at how little he felt consuming it.
Who was Atlas Jones? Son, drifter, occasional drummer and a man who owed money to the Spades. With the assumption of his identity, Atlas was mistakenly targeted and attacked. Unfortunately for the dealers, Atlas turned out to be a half-beast and killed all but one of them.
Perhaps it was a latent urge incited by his past, before his infection. Or that glorious high of slaughtering his enemies. Maybe, he was just bored and wanted to see if he could do it. But Atlas was determined to join the ranks of the Spades after some "persuasion" of his surviving attacker. Convincing them that he would pay his debt off with service, Atlas climbed the ranks of the Spades. Within a year, with Atlas killing the previous Ace in a nail-biting "duel of honor", he assumed the position as Ace of Spades. He has served as Ace for eight months now, though some are still not aware of the change in leadership due to his clandestine ascension.
