Tomi thrives off of social connection. She has a wide net of friends, most of whom are fellow wealthy and clueless young Citadel women on which their entire personality is crafted by their social relationships. Tomika was also once a socialite, but since her recent induction into the Military, she's had less time to attend parties and clubs. In the Military, she is rather lonely, as many officers don't respect her as an individual or a professional (for good reason). When it comes to her work, Tomi is ignorant, unfocused and at times, lazy, and this causes tension between both her superiors and her hard-working team members (it doesn't help that it's common knowledge her wealthy mother got her the job). Otherwise, she is friendly, good-natured and enjoys conversation, even if it might be shallow.
Tomika has had a string of boyfriends, relationships that have lasted as little as a week and as long as a year. From a young age, she attracted the attention of men as a vivacious and outgoing youth and continued to do so until her induction into the Military, whereas her last beau broke up with her because she "never had time for him". This, like all the other breakups before, was "the single most depressing moment of her life". She's a passionate and sensitive lover, though many times her romantic partners serve ulterior and shallow benefits than just romantic fulfillment. She has yet to experience a relationship where the forefront decider was not how good they would look together.
Just like her friends and romantic partners, antagonists are crafted and chosen on often very shallow basses. She may not like someone just because they smell weird or their choice of outfit is strange. With age, however, she has grown less judgmental and those she truly dislikes are often those that doubt her abilities, slight her ego and those that wrong the people she's closest to. Unfortunately, this seems to be the traits of most of the characters she attended Military academy with, and she holds a grudge against those that she believed led a hand in her struggle to graduate the school, including instructors. She also holds prejudice against those outside the Citadel, pitying them and believing them "unfortunate creatures", though that is because she's never met one until she graduated the Academy.
Tomi is born to Military sergeant Ren Pfeiffer and corporate mogul Desiree Pfeiffer nee Bowen, the fourth of five of Ren's children (the third eldest of Desiree's four). Ren was a loving father, as opposed to Desiree, who was cold, unaffectionate and absent for most of Tomi's childhood.
At age five, just a year after the birth of the youngest Pfeiffer child, Ren dies in a suspected terrorist bombing (unbeknownst to most people, it was a Military cover-up for the assassination of high ranking Military officials that threatened to spill confidential secrets to the public. This was in part coordinated by Desiree in an effort to save her children from the Military.) To Tomika, this was the death of her childhood.
She grew up with attentive nannies and the most experienced of teachers. She learned arithmetic, history, latin, reading and writing. At first, she was fascinated with learning and was voracious in consuming books. This changed with Tomi hit puberty and grew into a desirable woman and her desire for knowledge flatlined.
Tomika was at first bullied relentlessly by neighborhood kids. In her adolescence, she had odd physical features, from heterochromatic eyes (which other kids credited to a 'failed science experiment'), her gangly height (a result of an early growth spurt) and her awkward features. This changed coming into her teen and pre-teen years, when she turned physically attractive and personably outgoing.
Tomi became shallow and obsessed with her social standing, as a slew of the neighborhood kids, that once bullied her, now accepted into their social dynamics. She was introduced to the world of glamor and status by her older sister Calanthe and never looked back.
Desiree had (and has) a hot-cold relationship. Tomi was the closest to Ren, and a painful reminder of his death. Desiree also saw Tomika as a liability, one who would waste the family name and fortune by chasing the meaningless. This was why, out of the five siblings, Desiree only forced her into the Military Academy.
Tomika was at first an average Academy student. It was soon clear, though, that she fit in poorly with her class. Whereas she was once surrounded by people who accepted her based off of looks and her willingness to gossip, now entertained a crowd of motivated, dedicated and hard-working people. She was completely out of her element, and alienated due to her lack of severity of being in the Academy. People were quick to pick up on the fact that she was accepted into the Academy because of her high profile mother, and she barely graduated, her only motivation to please Mrs. Pfeiffer.
