He pulled himself higher up the scrap heap, despite the protests from Damon below. When he was younger, he was a rather weak child - scrawny, despite the bounty of food available to the affluent Quillers. With his bionic arm, not only was he stronger, but he could not feel the sharp edges of discarded tin roofs and the occasional barbed wire, and so he made it to the top in a breeze.
The world yawned before him. He did not know it could do that - for when he climbed to high places in the Inner Citadel, all he saw was a wall - and past that, a taller wall. But there were no walls here - only a wide expanse, that melted in the green smudge of the tree line, the crisp blue of the sky. Eros had only seen the outside world through pictures of his books - old books, with decaying yellow pages that hung loosely off their spines. Yet they were lively, with the most brilliant colors - young, laughing faces of people dressed in strange clothing, creatures beneath the water's surface that looked more alien than animal.
Though the immediate scene before him looked more like the same, of twisting metal and specks of grass trying to peek through splitting concrete, it was endless and Eros could only imagine what laid beyond - unfettered by towers and walls.
Eros slid down the scrap pile, metal junk dislodging perilously at the disturbance, and when he reached the bottom, skittered towards Damon, his momentum stopped only by the brick wall that was his lover's toros.
He embraced the military man, reaching up on his toes to give Damon a long, breathtaking kiss.
"Thank you, Damon..." he said when their lips parted, and Eros could see Damon's golden eyes sparkling under a falling sun. "You really are the best boyfriend ever."
Damon frowned as he watched Eros move higher and called out to him, trying to get Eros to come back down. It was dangerous up there! And he didn’t want to see Eros get hurt. And while he knew that Eros was pretty damned capable and the metal arm meant that he was better in many ways than others… he feared it also made Eros think he was immune to any sort of damage or danger. Which was certainly not true! Besides, since he wasn’t up there to protect him he was rather worried about Eros getting into something and him being too far away to do anything to help.
”Eros, please come down now?” He called out, knowing that his concern showed in his voice. A part of him wanted to climb up there and get Eros to bring him back down but he wasn’t so sure of himself as Eros was. Actually he was pretty sure some of what Eros had scrambled up like an adorable little monkey wouldn’t hold up under his weight! He was not exactly a light person in that regard, mostly because of the muscle that came with being in shape for the military.
Yet even as he wanted Eros to come down he was also very pleased to see him looking so happy and delighted. It was hard not to be pleased when it was so obvious that Eros was also pleased. Perhaps this was not so bad after all. So he managed to keep the rest of his concerned comments to himself, just keeping his eyes on Eros instead.
When Eros moved to slide down he stepped forward, frowning. There was so much metal he could get cut on! But it seemed that Eros was at least being somewhat careful. His arms spread out as Eros made it down and he chuckled, grinning down at the young man who had skidded right into his chest.
Arms curled around Eros as he let out a sigh, bending slightly to return the kiss that he so obviously wanted. He just wanted to see Eros smile and, honestly? Kiss the hell out of him at all times.
”Of course Eros.” His smile was soft and only seemed to melt further as he looked at Eros. A blush crept up over his cheeks, turning the normally tanned skin a slightly rosy pink. ”I’m glad you think so. I just want you to be happy.” He reached up a hand to brush his fingers against Eros’s cheek, still smiling at him.
