"Com 2 sleping qoorters, far west syde, sam spot."

Ares tapped the send button and the typo-ridden message popped up promptly in his line of communications with the red head. HIs eyes trailed upwards, scoffing quietly at their last string of texts targeted towards the ridiculous hair cut Maeve had given to herself. Ares likened it to "one of those gross hairballs that Bandit likes to cough up, y'know, the one that's sat in his stomach for a good day or two". He pocketed the comm and placed the cigarette balanced between his index and third finger back to his lips.

A sinewy curve of smoke trailed torpidly towards a brilliant blue sky as Ares crouched down and examined their tools of warfare: a pile of spray paint cans, of various colors and fullness. He tested each one with a painstaking eye on the sheet metal wall before him, the hiss of a release of pressure followed by a mist of colors filling the crook nestled inconsequently between two "homes". Those that failed to hiss, or relinquish color, were tossed carelessly over his shoulder, already forgotten and most likely to be left behind.

He was still in the process of checking cans when he heard footsteps shuffling behind him. The looter finished testing his latest container before turning, ready to greet Minnow or give rehearsed excuses as to why he was sneaking about with an entourage of spray paint.

She could recognize that typo-ridden message from anywhere. It belonged to none other than Ares, the looter she’d befriended in spite of her inner cynic telling her not to. She found she didn’t care what cynicism thought. It was nice to be around someone her age and, if nothing else, in benefitted the Eclipse as a whole if he didn’t get himself killed while doing any number of the dangerous things he seemed to have a proclivity towards. To calm her inner cynic, she convinced herself she was just supervising, rather than the underlying truth that she thoroughly enjoyed being in his company.

Her heart fluttered to be near him and shivers ran down her spine when he laughed. Her cheeks always felt like they were flushed a light pink when he talked to her. With him, she wanted to laugh and giggle and smile and blush and talk when she was around him and that was perhaps the greatest feeling on Earth. There was so much on her mind and only so much she could say with her art. Friendship offered her an openness she could not have with others. Besides, she was only supervising. There was no harm in that.

When she crept over to their meeting spot, Minnow immediately raised her eyebrow in that not-quite-judgmental way she preferred when in his company. In spite of the faint blush of her cheeks and her increasing heartbeat, she focused instead on the myriad of spray cans in his possession. “I don’t think you’re going to be using those on a canvas so...what gives?” She smiled slightly at her question, as if she had not already expected Ares to have planned some sort of silliness she would inevitably enjoy in spite of herself.

The first indication of her presence were her words. As soft as her steps, it drew Ares' attention away from the spray cans. Even though her voice was quiet and clement, the youth was attuned to it, could pick it out in a crowded mess hall, expected it and sought it out even. She was a beacon of comfort and fun and Ares adored her as much as he enjoyed her company.

He grinned through the cigarette perched in his mouth. "Well, Fish Flake, that depends on your definition of 'canvas'." Ares tossed underhand a spray can in her direction. "If you're talking about that little sketchbook you carry around, then no. Today, though, I want to show you more than that."

He bent over and scooped the rest of the working cans in his arms. The top of the stack of cans reached his chin and it looked as if, at any moment, the pile would keel over. No doubt some would slip from his grasp and tumble to the ground.

"Because today, FF, the world's our canvas!" the youth boasted over that stack. Minnie was often that voice is Ares' head that told him "maybe this is not such a good idea". He expected some backlash from the other as soon as the idea blossomed in his head, but he was persistent in that, one day, she would relinquish and concede to living in the wild world that was Ares'.

He walked towards the end of the alley, where Minnie had entered and now stood. He stopped beside her and craned his neck to flash her a lofty smile. "And by world, I mean Ian's trailer."

His grin spelled trouble long before he tossed a spray can at her that she had almost dropped. It was something she had grown accustomed to while she ‘supervised’ his antics. She would have told him that the ‘little’ sketchbook she carried around was more than what it appeared, though that might have caused more curiosity than she wanted around something so private. Besides, he could never see what she drew in them. It was bad luck.

If nothing else, the idea of being shown something more was intriguing, if not slightly concerning.

She watched with a raised brow as he took a tall stack of cans into his arms. She wasn’t quite sure if it would be better to help him or let the cans tumble from his hands. She was going to take a step forward to help him, until he told her the world was their canvas. Immediately, a slight frown pulled at her lips. “Ares...” we shouldn’t. But she never spoke the words because she knew in her heart she was going to help him anyway.

Though she probably shouldn’t have, Minnow eventually sighed, shaking her head slightly with a small smile on her face. “If you get caught, you’re on your own.” Which she always said whenever they were up to mischief, though she didn’t mean it and she was sure he knew that too. “Are you sure he’s not in?” That seemed like the first step. “And would you like help before you drop all of those and give us away?”

The hesitation in her voice rarely stopped Ares. It had, at first, back when Minnow was new and Ares was unsure how to approach her, lest he scare her off with his antics. But as he began revealing those truthful parts of himself, and Minnow loyally remained his friend, Ares had learned that it would take more than a few "harmless" pranks to scare her away.

"Fishflakes, you know I'd never rat you out," Ares said, over his shoulder, as the mound of spray cans teetered dangerously in his arms. "They know who the mastermind behind all these plots are anyway."

As soon as Minnie asked if he'd like help, Ares said "Nah, I've got it-" and then the toe of his boot hit something. He stumbled and the mountain of cans nearly cascaded to the ground. One can escaped the mass and was to hit the ground, if Ares had not suddenly and expertly caught it with the sole of his boot. Now he wobbled on one feet like a circus performer displaying some daring act of balance.

He looked back at Minnie, his arrogant smile growing lopsided and awkward and his cheeks lighting up with embarrassment and effort. "Actually, I'd love some help."

With his load lightened, Ares grew content and the jovial, mischievous look glimmered in his eyes. Briefly, his gaze flashed down to see the bit of steel frame that poked from the compact dirt below, like a ship capsized on its bow. There were a lot of perils like that littered around the Junkyard, yet Ares never quite learned how to be careful with his step in his bouts of puerile excitement.

"Pfft, no, of course not!" Ares exclaimed, with uncertain certainty. "He's out doing exams in the communal hall or something."

He was, in fact, not in the communal hall, as Ares stood on his tiptoes and peered into a small, narrow window. He could only see shadows, but they moved in Ian's bulky, tall form. The looter huffed in disappointment, then turned to Minnie. His laugh was nervous.

"Um, nevermind. The doctor's in." Discouraged, Ares figured they could find a less significant Eclipse member's room and "beautify" theirs (though it would not be nearly as satisfactory). And then his gaze drifted from Minnie's visage to Etienne's quarters, which sat just a few container's down. That devious grin returned to his face. He looked back at Minnie, said nothing, only cocked his head in the direction of Etienne's trailer. His eyebrows waggled suggestively.
