He was not sure what Jessie's agenda was. To fight, (fuck), keep yapping as sunlight wasted away above them. Ares had never found himself in quite a situation, chatting with a stranger who could have shot him in the back numerous times, one that treated him like he was already a close friend, doing those weird hip bumps and such, in a vine-grown alleyway surrounded by grotesque monsters.

And yet this is exactly what Ares sought when he went out on his missions. Not the boring, routine secondary sweeps of nests already determined eliminated by other Eclipse members. No, something that would get his heart pumping, that would make his short-lived time in an unpredictable world worth it. Some times, his mother would tell stories about his uncle Bracken, who was reportedly "scared of his own shadow". Moreso, he could barricade himself in a shed, fearful of the biters and crawlers that seemed to stalk every corner. One night, while he slept, one broke in and tore his throat out. Even those that went through painstaking efforts to be cautious were not safe.

So Ares pledged, as trite as it was, to live each day like it was his last. And this stranger, that promised a heart pounding, explosion-ending raid at a building teeming with both resources and danger, entranced him. Willed him to say when everything else told him to run. Maybe that's all it was- maybe Jessie was bored too.

Ares crossed his arms indignantly and insisted, "I'm plenty keen! The whole falling on the floor thing, that's not an everyday occurrence."

The other did not seem too convinced, yet Ares was already determined to prove himself to the stranger. He would show him. When they got into the bank, he would pick the whole damn place clean.

Back to the "sexual stuff", and back to a bumbling, beat-red Ares. Gosh, why and how did that happen to him. He sputtered, "W-what, no. I mean yes. I mean- why's it your business anyway!? You don't even know me."

Jessie giggled.

Unarguably, Jessie should not have giggled, and giggling hardly did their new communion any favors--

Still, with the stretch of his lips, with the twinkle in his eyes-- he was the stars himself, beautiful, distant--

And full of threats.

But Jessie had nothing much to say. Not now, not with Ares looking on full defense, prompting Jessie to mischievously consider any questionable activity they could perform together, down to skinny dipping, and tipping the cows on the very ranches that no longer existed.

His eyes showed it.

With a look full of teasing, and promise, Jessie giggled (again) at the fumbling--

For a moment, he contemplated pushing his luck; let’s go a bit too far, said his blue, blue eyes-- and the smile completed the gesture, except--

Eventually, it was impulse that decided everything for him.

An impulse that moved Jessie off the railing, that had him face Ares directly, and in fact with enough focus like he were trying to become the sole occupant of Ares’s field of vision, in the front of him, but also inhabiting his peripheries, that rush of cool wind blowing against the little hairs on the back of his nape.

“Tell you what,” he teased, speaking in a murmured, cordial tone he matched with the heat in his expression--

“By the end of tonight, we will have gotten to know each other well enough that--”

He paused, flickering his gaze along the length of Ares’s frame--

Then, Jessie clucked his tongue, and wrapped up--

“That won't be an issue any longer."

With a scrunch of his nose, the brief waggle of his brows, Jessie turned for the railing again, actually hopping on the narrow ledge of it only to bounce right off as he parkoured his way up to the top of the same building they could have just been killed in.

"Wutcha waiting for?" he shouted to the other modestly once he'd reached the rooftop, grinning down with a wicked gusto--

"C'mon slowpoke, adventures don't wait~!"
