Being named Rivyè Lanmò, the River (of) Death, this drifter colony does not fuck around about keeping themselves safe in a world where you either die or survive, take or be taken from. If someone were tied up in Stronghold, they may not have heard of the colony, but otherwise, these drifters have made a name for themselves. The colony was created 7 years ago in 2088. Many drifters have come and been lost, but the foundation remained the same. River Death colony was founded by a secretly long-time drifter, Yolene Jean-Pierre De Corleone. Originally, the colony was predominantly occupied by Haitian people, considered to be the Haitian drifter parish, but it always welcomed other drifters...within reason. There is now a hodgepodge of people there, but the Haitian origins of the colony remain. Those not a part of the colony are called "Ranyon" or "Moun Deyò"—"rag" or "outsider".
There is a reason for their name. Yolene intended the name to be a caution to those who meant them harm or who meant to steal from them. But 2 years into its creation was when that caution was backed with something real: a horde. The Drakko Horde is known to be a host of Infected from Levels - IV. They created a reinforced gladiator ring to trap them in so that they could use them in something called the Drakko Games. Those who slight them...go up for the Games. There are the few that have little regard for their lives and voluntarily go in the Games to test their speed.
Yolene is the founder and presumed leader of the Rivyè Lanmò colony. She and Gabrian met back in February 1997 when they were 17. Gabrian was completely taken with her, that she was the first he told that he was bisexual. In June 1997, they found out that she was pregnant with Monique, who they had on March 27, 1998. A snowball of tragedy started when Gabe's parents passed because by February 2010, Gabe seemingly fell off the face of the Earth before Monique turned 12. Not knowing he had turned, they were on their own. Yolene was turned when Monique was 15, and she made Monique leave her before she killed her. When her humanity returned, she mourned as a drifter whilst learning to defend her, and she met a man who would become her best friend and close advisor, Placide. With his encouragement, she ended up creating the colony in 2088. In the colony, people fondly call her "Maman Yolene".

Placide Louissaint met Yolene just after she got her humanity back, and they became close friends. It was through his encouragement that she went on to found the colony, and he is the only person so far to know her secret that she is a Level V Infected. At first, he was skeptical of her and nearly tried to kill her, buuut after she kicked his ass, she explained herself and he slowly came to his senses.
