Diego is your golden-retriever sort. Happy-go-lucky, gentle, careful, thoughtful, and considerate. He’s the sort that can instantly make you feel comfortable and that everything is going to be okay even if the world may be burning down around you. He and Aspen likely grew up together and both were compound children. They went through basic together, and the teenage summer love followed them through it. Diego is the polar opposite of Aspen in a lot of ways and always has been. He’s the sort that was exclusive even knowing that Aspen certainly wasn’t. He could’ve settled down tomorrow with her, had kids, and been utterly satisfied with his life. Where Aspen is fire and difficult to contain, Diego is incredibly earthen and a man who likes to set down roots, follow the rules, and remain within the boundaries he’s been given.

Diego has always been loyal to the cause and is a firm believer that a higher entity gave him that purpose for a reason. Aspen would whisper her disbelief in God, question the regime, and Diego would silence her - panicked someone would hear and wonder what on earth she was saying.

When she left in 2093, he remained and contact has been… inconsistent. It broke his heart when news of her parents reached him and she was missing. Despite this, his loyalty to the cause has never faltered and he has 100% picked the military over her. There has been occasions where Aspen has run into him, attempted to make him see sense, and he likely gives her ten minutes to disappear again.

He loves her because she’s his first and likely all he’s ever really known. She has always taken him for granted and he has never quite scratched the sort of itch she gets. There is chance here for her to attempt to use his feelings to make him turn on the military, but it isn’t going to work.

The end result of this is for them to part ways for good, as friends, or as official enemies.

As a note: Diego is the one who taught her Spanish, and she taught him Gaelic. He is the same age as her: 28-29. Once again: there is a wanted, but if you have a character that you think would fit, that’ll do too!
