Her Family is her life, and she would do anything to defend them- even if it means sacrificing her own life and sanity. She is more conscious of her past, and recalls a life in urban, destitute Chicago, struggling with absent parents and siblings involved in gang activity. Determined not to subject her kids to a childhood like hers, she worked hard from school and graduated from university. She was found to be infertile as a human, so she sees the others of her Family as a second chance at children

Xenia’s lover and a mind that rivals hers in wit and cunning. He is the more outwardly aggressive of the two, and has no issues using humans as tools to reach his end goal of world domination. He has contempt for humans, seeing the virus as a way of “darwining out” the species and is eager to rise as the apex predator. He has a cruel streak, though Xenia believes it a coping mechanism, to mask the inexplicable pain he feels from his previous life as a human. Along with Quinton, the Military captive, he likes to keep pet “humans”.

»Lazaro Lovett – little brother

Don’t let his youthful looks and soft voice fool you- Lazaro is perhaps the most cold-blooded and insane of the Family. He has a penchant and love for knife work and enjoys the way blood looks as its flowing from an open wound, if only to satiate his endless hunger. However, he is not without thought or precision, and uses his puerile looks and mannerisms to his advantage- drawing others into a false sense of security, before lashing out and tasting sweet blood. Many of the others in the Family fear him for his unpredictability. He has an inseparable relationship with Echo, who seems to be the only one to “understand” him.

»willow Lovett – little sister

The quiet and contemplative Willow possesses the calmest nature of the group. In fact, she’s taken a liking to their prisoner, Quinton, and even harbors a secret crush on him. Her kindness to him is not unnoticed by the Military captive. Unlike the others, she holds no resentment to humankind and is rather curious about Stronghold- yet sticks with the Family in fear that she’ll have no one if she left.

»marquis Lovett – big brother

Marquis is the most comfortable with humanity, as he’s lived in Stronghold for a while until he found his place in the Family. He’s a natural silver tongue, having worked in politics and law as a human. Though not as cruel as Archie, as wild as Lazaro or as savage as Echo, he’s got a contemptuous streak about him and ambition to place himself where he belongs- making the decisions. He also enjoys taunting the Military, though harbors a clandestine respect for them. He follows Xenia because he respects her- for now (damn the “family bond”).

»echo Lovett – family hound

Echo doesn’t talk much, but the tattoos decorated across his body and the katana he carries on his back speaks far more than words can. He’s been comfortable in his place as a subordinate and grunt to the rest of the Family, carrying out action and duty at their request (after passing his own jurisdiction). He has formed a particularly tight bond with Lazaro, who only seems to calm in his presence. Echo holds a secret fascination for old world things and likes to keep relics from the past in his living quarters (he keeps this a tight-lipped secret from Archie- who would surely reprimand him, or worst, if this was found out).

»quinton bishop

Quinton Bishop has been missing for two years from Stronghold. He’s presumed dead by the Military, and his family. In reality, he was captured by the Family, intended as a feeder for the lot of them (Archie specifically). Most of the Family treat him with contempt or cruelty, but a few have become intrigued by him- Willow, because she finds him fascinating (and cute) and Marquis, because he wants to learn more about Military rule.
