----TW: MENTIONS DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE----

Uncle Carl has done it again.

A fight broke out with one of the dealers at the casino and he was given a text to meet with the owner who was currently detaining him. From what he read, the dealer's nose was broken, the table was broken, and clothes were ruined. This was costing the two of them money that neither had.

Ignore that his uncle served in the military, if anything, it was more like a punishment. It was giving the man just enough funds to hang himself. Just enough to get whatever cheap thrill off the streets to shoot up or swallow. To drink himself into oblivion. Hit the casino in hopes of making just enough to get something more potent.

Remi was no fool either. While his education and tutoring didn't bring in as much funds as his uncle wanted, it provided what they needed. A roof over their head, clothes on their backs, and food on the table. Honestly? This way of living felt more liberating despite the hardships. That beyond the glistening lights of the inner citadel, the world beyond its walls was just as beautiful. One just had to find it.

That said, the sense of dread that came over him upon catching the tall spires and flashing lights of the casino made his stomach churn. There were a couple of suited men and women waiting for him as one of them signed for him to follow. Assuring him that his uncle was perfectly safe despite being detained."Do not worry," says and signs one of the security guards. "Mr. Wilkenson just wishes to speak with you though I must ask if you have any weapons on you, you must hand them over to us."

The damages must be substantial this time around if I have to speak to them, right? Remiel looked around the casino floor at all the various flashing lights and how the patrons were either joyful, angry, or serious about what machine they were working on or what the dealer had in store.

"It is hard to say, but again, do you have any weapons on your person?" They signed and spoke again. Stepping in front of him before a golden elevator. "I promise you will get them back."

Remiel let out a huff and reached for the straps on his belt to remove the batons that were nestled away. Placing them both in the other's open palms before being escorted by two guards into the elevator where there was only one destination for them to all go. The top floor.

The ride-up seemed to take longer than he expected as he wondered what the best and worst outcomes could be. That the idea of his uncle being banned from the casino would be amazing, but there was the lingering fear of "how much" he would have to get to cover whatever cost incurred. There was a brief moment of letting his uncle handle the consequences of his action though that may come to bite him later.

As soon as those doors opened, Remiel stepped out as one stood in front of him and the other behind him. The energy they were both giving off was not negative nor dangerous which put him at ease. Though the large doors that were at the end of the elaborately decorated hall set off his internal alarms.

Leander set the whisky glass down with a clink. The ice jostled within the crystal - another casual flexing of his privilege, ice and endless imbibement.

He was leaning back on a large, leather seat - one leg propped over his knee, a hand resting lazily against his temple. A bedraggled man knelt beside him in handcuffs. The last time such a person found themselves in this position inside the King's apartment, it was in Leo's bedroom, and they wore lace and a lascivious smile. In contrast, this man was far from the throes of pleasure and play, dried blood crusted in the corner of his split lip, an air of defeat mixed with that slowly waning defiance as the stars wheeled across the sky and his so-called nephew was no where to be seem.

Next to the man was the Diamond's Queen, Remus. The claw marks decorating the man's cheeks and arms bore Remus' distinct sigil.

The blonde may have found delight in looking at a man kneel before him in display of weakness. Leo could never tell, not with the smirk that constantly lurked at the corner of his lips. Leo himself may have looked like a conqueror himself - dress in a crisp gray suit, blue eyes staring off, past the man, past Remus, perhaps even looking through the walls themselves

But this scene only made him pity the man. Once, it may have even saddened him, for this was a position he saw his own mother in numerous times in his youth - her soul drunk and beaten and weighing her down to her knees.

But his youth was as distant to him as the stars themselves. Sometimes, it felt as if his history belonged to another person, a man lacking the same success and wealth as he.

The elevator chimed as its doors slid open and revealed a man younger and cleaner than the one kneeled beside the King and Queen. Leo planted his shoes on the floor and stood, smoothing down the front of his jacket as he stuck his hand out to greet the man.

"Hello. You must be the nephew."

It was a needless observation. His very presence here meant that his ID had been verified and he had been let through by numerous lines of security.

Remiel's bright eyes focused on the man who walked towards him and not the other who looked as foreboding or his uncle who looked worse for wear. His lips thinned as he took the man's hand to give a firm shake while bringing up a hand to sign as he mouthed, I am. Releasing their hand, he stood rooted to the spot, unsure how to proceed since it was arrogant to believe that they may know ASL. So, he did the next best thing.

Reaching into his pocket, he took out a small notepad and a pen. He had to flip through the pages until he found a clean sheet and began to write things down. Putting down a bullet point for each concern he had before holding out the notepad out to them.

* How bad are the damages that were procured? Was anyone injured besides himself?

* How much collateral did he give or did he get a loan from the casino? He gets paid at the end of the month from the Military.

* Am I allowed to take him home or will there be charges pressed against him? Or due to the fact he is here, do you need him for what was done?

This situation was no stranger to Remiel and he just had to hope that these people were more reasonable or willing to work with him. He already saved his uncle's skin more than once, and his own income is what was keeping them afloat. While he was sure he could make it work if something happened, he just had to pray that it wasn't going to jeopardize their living situation.

The nephew didn't answer directly - rather, his hands moved in a gesture and he mouthed something Leo took to say "I am". The man then fished in his pockets and produced a notepad. He spent the next few moments scrawling on the paper, before handing it over to Leo. Leo took it and skimmed over the bullet points. The King smiled, folded the paper into quarters and stuck it in his pocket so as to free his hands. Then he signed and mouthed back, Straight to business? Let's start with introductions. My name is L-E-O.

Leo learned ASL back when he was a slum kid. It was used by pickpockets to silently communicate with one another as they coordinated attacks. However, the ASL he knew was a bastardized version of the language, shortened and consisting of a distinct, slums accent. Rough with lack of use, the grammar took some time to form on his fingers as he stumbled through the language. He hoped that the meaning came clear enough to the other man.

Leo then nodded over his shoulder to the crystal decanter of whiskey set on the table beside his previously-occupied chair. He signed to the man Whiskey? - ignoring the holes that the chained uncle's glare burned into his back. The alcoholic must have been frustrated beyond belief - kneeling for hours, waiting for his rescue, only to see that when the rescue did come, Leo made sure to take his time fraternizing with them. It thrilled Leo, and he considered it as part of the man's punishment.
