Ever since he had arrived at the Junkyard, the Workshop was pretty far from what Ian would consider an ideal space for a doctor to work. The rooms that had been allocated for their usage for Eclipse personnel left much to be desired when it comes to hygiene. He had spent much of his own money to get this compartment to a decent standard so as to make sure that any patients who consulted a doctor here didn't leave their appointment even more sick then they had already came. Whilst the Vampire's fellow medical practitioners sometimes thought he was a bit too nitpicky, they ended up relenting that it was much better than being chased by a delusional former patient with a rusty spoon. Now, the doctor made his preparations for his upcoming patient; the current Boss of Eclipse, Étienne Blanchard. Before he had assumed the position of treasurer, the Briton rarely interacted with the man durng his rise to power, save for the occasional check-up and mission assignment. In those early years, he had thought of the Boss-to-be to something of a thrill-seeker, too much of one he'd dare say, but that was the nature that helped the active branches get the job done...so long as the adrenaline did not go to their heads. Étienne was also rather hot-headed and seemed to have the attention span of a goldfish when it came matters that didn't involve an exchange of bullets. At times, the Vampire wonder if there was more to this demeanour than met the eye; given his profession, an ability to pierce the layers of a person was crucial so as to give them the best care after all.

Then came the great surprise of the decade; the impetuous Stronghold Native had risen up to leadership of Eclipse, in spite of the flaws he had presented. Given his longevity, Ian had plenty of time to be surprised; this one had confirmed that there was indeed more than meets the eye when it came to the new Boss. There was something there...something that needed refining; problem was, the Vampire had no idea what it was, it was something he was eager to divine for himself. Maybe there was some wisdom beyond that devil-may-care demeanour...or maybe Étienne simply gave him the position of Treasuerer by virtue of being the only soul willing to do the job after what happened to Ian's forebear. In the meantime, the Boss was due to meet him in the ad-hoc clinic regarding an injury he had sustained; the Treasurer had been away, seeing to a trading deal being struck with a community holed up on the coast...its quite remarkable the price people will charge for fresh fish these days. Now, Étienne had a specialist from Stronghold see to it...but it never hurt for a second opinion from someone most acquainted with one's medical history. He also had that matter of the coastal deal to bring up, since the folks there desired specific items such as boat engines for their little fishing fleet and greenhouse materials for winter harvests. This was naturally a matter that had to brought forth to the Boss, given the materials that have been requested.

He didn't actually want to go. But really — did anyone ever enjoy getting dragged to go see the doctor? He doubts it.

If anyone actually cared to ask what he thought, Étienne would have simply waved them off with a "I'm fine", and that would have been it. But no, his advisors had been up his ass all week to get his arm looked at again, and finally after much nagging, he agreed simply so that they would get off his back. But he regrets it now, as he drags his feet in the direction of the Workshop where Eclipse's personal medical center had been set up. The scent of motor oil greets him as he gets close, and that's one thing he at least can enjoy about the visit. When not burdened with looking after Eclipse, he enjoys a good couple hours in the mechanic shop working on his little pet project.

But that's not what he's there for. The French man sighs, gazes wistfully at the me and women currently working on that week's latest find — a small nod here or there when greeted by an Eclipse member — then heads for the back of the Workshop. It's slightly cooler back here, he notes, as he enters the room that serves as a medical room.

“Morning, doctor,” he greets the other man, stopping when he realizes his mistake. “Or... Afternoon.” The next few words are a mumble; he may have overslept just a tiny bit. Preferring the nighttime over the daytime, it was always a struggle to get up in the morning. Thankfully it's easier as Boss to get away with it than when he had been nothing more than a low-level grunt.

“Where would you like me?” he questions, turning his gaze towards the other man as he already begins to unbutton his shirt, knowing he'd have to undress at least the top part so that Ian could get a good view at both his left arm as well as shoulder. Goose bumps rise on the surface of his skin as the cool air meets bare flesh; damn, he'd have to remember to order someone to get some kind of fire going back here, even if it wasn't frequented as much.

It was the scent that first announced the Boss' coming to Ian; it was a peculiar mix of engine oils, urban decay and, most recently, drying blood. Oh yes, the scent carried a small element of temptation to it, but the doctor was well-fed...even if the meal did consist of expired blood bags with a side of pig's blood from the local butcher, acquired under the guise of making black pudding. No sooner had the scent begun to hit his nostrils, he got to work putting his gloves on. It was just as he was starting to put the second one on that the Boss entered the room, greeting him as he did so. Ian inwardly chortled at his hasty switch from morning to afternoon.

"Good afternoon to you Étienne," he said with mirth in his voice, "even the greatest of us can't say no to an extra hour or two in bed."

Indeed, not even the Infected himself was above such a desire; in his old life, sleep was few and far between due to the demands of working in a hospital; so much so that it might as well have been a luxury rather than a necessity. Nowadays, without a strict schedule, he could more or less choose his own hours...though sometimes, old habits died hard. Étienne would then enquire as to where he would sit, to which Ian would gesture towards a deck chair that had been customised with comfortable pillows. As the other man took his seat, and his shirt off, the doctor began to speak again.

"Anyways, better here now than much later...how's the injury these days? The Advisors here told me you were seen to by a specialist whilst I was away. They say they can tell that it is clearly bothering you...what did this specialist say to you regarding your wound?"

That last question was necessary, due to the nature of the world outside of Stronghold's walls, there just wasn't a shared database with which to consult any changes to a patient's records. Naturally, Ian already had the Boss' ad-hoc medical file out, ready to fill it in as necessity dictates.

NOTES N/A

The Eclipse Boss scoffs at the other man's comment about everyone being able to enjoy another hour or two in bed. He couldn't recall, ever, a time when he had seen the doctor actually sleep late in the morning... But then again, he himself wasn't usually up that early anyway, so who really knew. He preferred to get his work done during the night, the time when there was a lull in the Junkyard and everything was quiet. Just the way he liked it. Unfortunately it also meant he was pulled from bed early in the morning because of how most people liked to have their routines centered around the daytime. How dull.

At the gesture towards the chair — he lifts his brow at the many cushions, but doesn't comment on it — he proceeds to sit down as he slips his shirt off his left arm and shoulder. Outwardly, it had been long enough since the injury that it didn't look like much of anything. The large laceration along his forearm that had first brought on the immediate need for attention was just barely visible against his white skin, having healed nicely.

He sends a sharp look in Ian's direction at his words.

“They did, did they? Who specifically claimed my arm was bothering me?” It was Paris, wasn't it? He knows it without even having to wait for an answer. “Whatever they said to you, I can assure you they were exaggerating. My arm is fine. I am merely here as a courtesy to them,” he continues with a scoff, annoyance flickering across his face. He had too much pride to admit just how much his arm was hurting him. In a world such as this — dog eat dog — the last thing he wanted to do was to admit weakness in front of someone else, especially someone he didn't necessarily trust.

He's asked about what the doctor said to him and he frowns.

“Nothing much... He just patched me up.” It's clear he doesn't want to talk any more about it. It had already been an uncomfortable interaction for him, when he realized that the doctor they had called was someone he knew from his past life in the Inner Citadel. The first person he had known, that found out he was still alive after he disappeared from his rich lifestyle. It wasn't something he particularly wanted to remember.

"Well, being the Treasurer of this delightful slice of chaos we call ours..." began Ian with a chuckle, "I do have a knack listening to the word that comes along the grapevine."

The Doctor spoke a half-truth; yes, there were whispers amongst the Arms that the Boss still wasn't 100% after all the money spent on the specialist from Stronghold. However, having attended a private discussion with the other Advisors, their concerns should be further looked into. Of course, what was said in this room would never leave it; Ian still believed in the notion of patient confidentiality, for it was a cornerstone of his medical studies unlike those shills in the Inner Citadel and the Military. However, it was clear that the Boss was lying to him; the Vampire knew all too the signs of when a person was putting up a show of deceptive bravado. Even in the world that was, where the dog-eat-dog was much more subtle, many folks tried to downplay the pains that ailed them, unaware that they make the matter worse through their efforts to save face. It was a complete and utter annoyance to Ian, but it naturally came with the job. As to the matter of what this other doctor said, he raised his eyebrow slightly. He gently raised Étienne's partially, both to get a closer look at the injury and to see how the human reactoed. As gentle as the Infected was, a portion of his inhuman strength was still somewhat present in his fingers.

"I see...I guess they did not have enough time to stick around long enough to assess for other, more subtle damages; the ones that aren't so apparent until much later." He then stroked his beard as he looked at the scar that had once been the wound. "The physician who tended your injury definitely had skill, it has definitely healed very well judging by the neatness of the scar tissue."

That was when he began to sigh a little; the Treasurer knew he had to try and cut to the matter at hand. If it wasn't nipped in the bud now, it could become a serious problem later. When he spoke, he would do so with a firmness few would ever hear from him.

"Look Étienne, outside of these walls, I am the Treasurer of Eclipse...but in here, I am your doctor. Whatever is said in here shall remain in here, and shall be taken to my grave." Ian's words dripped with conviction; his words came from a soul that truly believed in them, one of his numerous beliefs that he refused to compromise on.

"Now please be honest with me; how does your arm trully feel...otherwise I might have to amputate it, chase you around the Junkyard and slap you with your own hand."

NOTES N/A

Étienne doesn't comment as Ian talks about the scar that's just barely visible against his milky skin, merely keeps his eyes trained on the spot that the doctor was looking at as well. He wasn't a doctor, so it's not like he had anything to add to the conversation. It was also quite apparent that Asher hadn't stuck around after fixing him up... The man had a job back in Stronghold, and even if their connection had rattled him, he wasn't about to just up and offer a position in the group.

Ian suddenly sighs, and immediately Étienne feels defensive, puffing up slightly as he turns a narrowed gaze towards the older man. He knows that sigh — he's heard that sigh before. It's an all-too familiar sound from the people closest to him. The tone of the man's following words isn't unfamiliar to him either. The same tone used when he was a brash young recruit.

Ian's words don't mean much to Étienne. Deep down, he understands the doctor is telling him the truth, of course he does; it's not like Ian has any kind of reason to lie to him, especially after the amount of time in which they've known each other. But his pride feels rubbed raw at the suggestion he should ever tell anyone one of his weaknesses. His head tilts ever so slightly — arrogance. Maybe if the man had left it there, Étienne would have simply bit the bullet. But oh no. The man's next words brought out the fiery temper of the young leader. How dare he threaten him.

“Don't think you can threaten me, doctor,” Étienne sneers, a challenge in his eyes as he stares at the other man. “I'm the Boss of Eclipse, and I won't be treated like some sort of child.” Ian was sorely mistaken if he honestly thought his threat was going to do anything except rile the hothead up. Étienne was stubborn as a mule, and he wasn't about to back down from what he perceived as a very real threat.

“Poke and prod all you want if it'll get the advisors off my back. That's the only reason I came here,” he finishes with a huff.

"So there is something wrong."

Ian's words were not a question at all, but a statement of fact on his part; he had seen the micro-cues with his own eyes...he just needed the Boss to admit it, otherwise he could not do anything to help. That he had doubled down on his bravado and implied that the Treasurer's joke was a threat was an indicator of his mental projections. Drawing upon his inhuman abilities, he moved his hand in an unnoticeably fast manner that made it look as though the arm had slipped from its elevated position; Ian was loathed to get a confession in this manner, but with a man as stubborn as Étienne, he felt as though he had little choice. When he next spoke, it was clear that the Vampire was not afraid of the Boss at all, but sympathetic, even the face of hostility...he was still somewhat exasperated though, and not even his devotion to duty could bury it completely.

"I am not threatening you Boss...I am simply trying to help you to the best of my ability; if there is any nerve damage like I suspect there could be, then there is a chance we may see a gradual loss of the limb, either through loss of sensation or the potential for increasing pain."

He then once more moved to pick up Étienne's arm to continue the examination, taking care to dab it with pain-dulling medicines as he did so. Of course, he was ready, just in case the Boss had more physical reaction to the sudden influx of pain that he felt.

"And had you not raised your guard up so high, perhaps you'd have found my "threat" ridiculous, as it should be.

Something wrong? Like hell he'd admit to anything. Étienne is nothing more than a petulant child in instances like this, and his pride keeps his mouth shut. The Eclipse Boss looks off to the side as he lets the doctor carefully examine his arm, a tingling in the tips of his fingers that he chooses to ignore, even if he isn't quite able to hide the slightly frown that etches into his brow.

Merde! Pain like fire licks up the nerves of his body when his arm is suddenly let go, slamming into the cold metal bar of the armrest as pain washes over him. Immediately the man can't help but hunch over as his free arm grasps the other in gain, an expression of pain flashing across his face before it disappears again, replaced instead by anger. His head snaps up, tongue at the ready for a verbal lashing — but Ian is quicker than him to speak. For once Étienne stays quiet, even if his anger boils just beneath the surface, not impressed with the doctor's little game.

But even he cannot help the prickle of unease that shivers down his spine at the idea of losing mobility in his arm. Étienne gazes down, his hand instinctively flexing to try and rid itself of the numbness. It was something he had worried about back when he had first been worked on — should he lose his arm, he was good as dead — or worse, would send him crawling back to his family in hopes of securing a high-end prosthetic like Jacqueline.

He'd rather die than go back to his family again.

This time he doesn't resist when Ian picks up his arm, but his pride takes a hit at the man's words. He scoffs in irritation, but it's softened as he winces in pain from his arm being lifted again.

“My guard is up for good reason, doctor,” he snaps, still annoyed the other man was able to ruffle his feathers so easily. “The world isn't a safe place, even among those you think are your friends... I've seen the ugly side of society, and I know for good reason trusting anyone is a bad idea.” There's some hurt in his words, perhaps, but it doesn't show through his tone. “Besides, I'm in a position where there are many gunning for my head. Perhaps you were gone so long because you were visiting your friends in the Military, hm? Doctor turned spy?” For the first time, there is a teasing lilt to his words as he looks at the other man, a sly grin on his face.

He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose with his free hand, and continues, “Fine. My arm has not healed as quickly or as well as I was hoping it would. I didn't think it would take this long to heal a simple cut.”

"And you don't think I have?"

Asked Ian, in regards to seeing ugly belly of society; even long before the outbreak that saw the collapse of the old world, he had seen how people treat those who tried to help them. He'd known of colleagues who had been assaulted by drug addicts and lunatics, in spite of their carers best intentions; it was a sad story in the end, but that was the duty of a doctor....to suffer so that others did not. Upon the sly question about espionage, he gave a look of faux horror.

"My God! My evil plan has been foiled! I must go back to Stronghold to steal candy from babies and play games of kitten-tossing!"

The Doctor then gave a rare mischievous grin; he was still a Brit at heart, and to be Brit was to be able to turn someone's snide remark into a joke. He personally thought it was actually quite funny, but then again, it seemed self-deprecating humour died out in this world. After the Boss finally admitted to his problems regarding his arm, Ian simply nodded in acknowledgement.

"When it comes to the human body, nothing is ever simple sadly." Admitted, the doctor with a slight smile. "A kick to the shin hurts like hell because of the nerve clusters there, whilst an itch on the back is hard to trace due to how spread out the nerves are within it. I strongly suspect that your laceration must have damaged the nerves in your arm, hence the pain and the numbness." Ian would then ultimately return to the matter at hand.

"Now that you have admitted to the problem at hand, I can actually get to work helping you properly recover. Whilst there is nothing wrong with having your guard up, sometimes you have to be careful lest those defenses crush you." The Vampire had pretty much conveyed his own beliefs on the matter in that single sentence; he'd have been a very poor Treasurer if he did not have the ability to read into the motives of others. "Now then, as to what I can do for you; I can prescribe you painkillers to help with the pain; it will be experimental though, since we'll need to see which dosage is most effective."

He then gestured to Étienne's arm.

"As for the nerve damage, that will require physiotherapy; it'll hurt, but the purpose is to help your arm adjust to this change in neural function. Because your arm is still functional now, that means we will be able to nip the problem in the bud and allow your arm to become very close to its prime functionality once more. This will require multiple appointments however, and given your desire to save face, perhaps you may wish for it to be discretely done?"

He doesn't reply when asked if he believes Ian hasn't seen the darker side of society. In truth, he couldn't say; he didn't know that much about the other man, what kind of life experiences he had that differed from Étienne's. More than likely everyone that lived in Eclipse had seen the darker side of society, except perhaps for those that had been born in the Junkyard rather than inside Stronghold's oppressive walls. He knew many of Eclipse's members were former Military themselves, even if they didn't talk much about it. There was a reason Eclipse was often branded as being a oppositional force to the Military... And its members reflected that attitude.

He laughs at Ian's response to his joking, glad the other man could take a joke and run with it. He couldn't imagine the doctor doing such things, even if he didn't fully trust the man. But did he actually trust anyone?

Étienne falls quiet as Ian begins to speak again, this time drawing both of their attention back to the matter of hand. He scoffs a bit at the implication that nothing could have been done until he finally admitted to his issues, but he doesn't say anything about it. Not even when Ian talks about him having to lower his defenses. That simply wasn't something the man was willing to do. He'd learned the hard way what happened when he allowed anyone close to him, and it was just safer to keep himself closed off from others.

The next few words hit him hard. Painkillers. Physiotherapy. Weakness. That's what it was. Just another way for him to be shown as weak, when there were already some that questioned his leadership. He frowns, staring at his arm, fingers subtly clenching into a fist so he can test the numbness that bounces back at him again from the action.

“Is this something that can be done here... Or are you going to require I go back?” He doesn't follow up with his words, but he's certain they both know what he means. Doctors in the Inner Citadel had the best equipment, the best medication, the best healthcare — and the naivest of life.

“If you have medication I can take, I'll start with those.” He holds his tongue against informing Ian that, in the past, he's turned to less medical means to relieve himself of pain. “As for physiotherapy...” he groans, running fingers through his hair to hide the anxiety. “If you can find a way for it to be done discreetly, then I will allow it. But do not mistake my fears, Donnaghan—” he finally calls the other man by his name, “this is about more than saving face. I do not care how others view me, but I am not ignorant of the talk around camp. Not all are happy with my position as leader.”

He doesn't say more, but it's obvious what he means. If others knew he was weak, was injured, then now would be the time to act.

Ian naturally gave a smile once the Boss began to discuss the details of what he had in mind for treatment.

"Given that much of our medical resources are pilfered from the Military or made by strangely-gifted Drifters we can thankfully do what we need to without outside help." Remarked the Doctor with a good deal of pride in his voice. "Plus healthcare here is free for Eclipse members as you''ll know, since getting treatment in Stronghold will cost you an arm and a leg, and possibly the soul of your firstborn children...it never ceases to amaze me how such a thing as free healthcare can raise morale."

Indeed, as someone who was originally from a country, and a time, where healthcare was free; the Vampire had been shocked at the system of the old US, and was even more horrified at how the system had degraded even further in Stronghold. Naturally, before he became Treasurer, Ian had proposed making medical treatments for Eclipse members for free; it would help with the spirits of its operatives and also maintain their willingness to work for them. Of course, he had to also appeal to the old Boss' pragmatism and cynicism, stating that, of course, it should only be mentioned with aspiring members, so as not to attract and overwhelming number of chaff for the organisation. Once the conversation shifted even deeper into what the treatment would entail, as well as Étienne's input, the Vampire once more added his input.

"I can easily tell you that I can prescribe you the painkillers you need." He then marched over to one of the little vaults that were used to stow the medicines that Eclipse used for their own usage. After a few ruffles around, he exclaimed a "Ah, here they are!" before emerging with a fairly large box of pain medication. ""Alright then, I recommend you take two of these whenever the pain is at its worst; when you do, I must warn you not to drink alcohol two hours after taking them...to do so would increase the odds of your heartrate and breathing becoming dangerously slow."

As for the abillity to keep the physiotherapy sessions as discrete as humanly possible, the doctor knew just the right opportune moments with which it could be done. "Now that is where my role as Treasurer can definitely help out; during my daily reports, I can easily carry out the physiotherapy sessions during these meetings; might as well kill two birds with one stone in that regard." As to the Boss' concerns in regard to his detractors, Ian had his own observations to make.

"My granddad had a saying in regard to your situation," that was when he began to put on his best Irish accent, further complimented with a higher pitch, generally for comedic effect. "Oh little Ian, be careful when ye put yerself on a pedestal; for every person that'll be lookin' up to ye, another will be either lookin' up yer skirt or tryin' to kick the pedestal down." This naturally made Ian chortle at the memory.

"Apologies, it has has been a while since I remembered that old piece of wisdom; basically, it means that all leaders generally end up with their supporters and detractors; the latter will easily range from those who are poking holes in your methods to those who are actively working to drag you down. Even the invisible puppetmasters that rule Stronghold are not immune to this."

TW: Mentions of past drug abuse

TAG Ian Donnaghan
NOTES N/A

“The cost isn't the problem...” Étienne mutters as he rubs his forehand with his free hand, closing his eyes for a moment before he simply nods, acknowledging Ian's words that care could be done in Eclipse. Of course that's what he would prefer — it just had nothing to do with the cost. The French man had the means to get healthcare in the Inner Citadel if it came down to it, but the idea of dragging himself back through those inner gates had a toll that did not measure up to the physical price of the care. He did not want anything to do with his previous life if he could help it.

He turns his attention back to Ian again as the man begins to describe the kind of treatment he could expect. Eyes sharpen their focus as Étienne observes where the other man suddenly grabs painkillers from, and his heart quickens a little bit before it calms down again. It wasn't known amongst Eclipse members about the darker side of Étienne's habits. He remembered a time when he used to turn to drug abuse in order to feel something — to feel like more than just a caged animal inside the Inner Citadel's walls. It's been a while since the Boss had last used anything for a quick fix... But his body remembers, and instinctively reacts to the sight of pills.

Étienne quickly turns his head away, glancing back at Ian only once the man gets close to him again. He accepts the box of painkillers, scoffing under his breath at the doctor's recommendation not to take alcohol after ingesting the pills. Not like it wasn't something he hadn't done before.

“Sure, doc,” he half-heartedly agrees, lifting a pill bottle out of the box to observe it before he looks back at Ian once the man speaks again. “We will do that then. But not here; we'll do it in my room,” Étienne comments, agreeing with Ian's suggestion to do the physiotherapy during his daily reports. The Boss decides it would be better not to do it in the place so obviously marked as Eclipse's exam room, and would rather do it in a more private place.

He places the pill bottle back in the box, expecting to go, but leans back as the doctor begins to give him a piece of advice his granddad had apparently done before. A small glimmer of a smirk can be seen on Étienne's face now as he raises a brow questioningly, a bit of amusement in his expression.

“I don't exactly go around wearing skirts, so I don't think that's something I have to worry about,” he laughs, dragging fingers through his hair to smooth it down. “Either way, I'm used to it. I was never exactly the favourite to lead,” he laughs, as if there's no sting to the idea he wasn't popular in everyone's minds. Ever since he had been picked as the next Boss of Eclipse, there had been whispers around the camp of how he wasn't right for the position. Étienne didn't care. He had too much pride to be hurt by gossiping little rats — but he didn't ignore such things, either.

The sudden flutter in the Eclipse Boss' eyes and body language, as well as the subtlre palpitations of his heartbeat might as well have been a scream to Ian's ears, partcularly at the mention of the painkillers. That was when it occured to the Doctor; that his patient may have something of a history with such substances. He knew that he would need to take care so that Étienne did not develop a problem, or re-develop it if his suspicions were correct. As the human claimed the medication, he would then add, in his professional tone:

"I will also have to monitor you for signs of developing a dependency on these painkillers; apparently there has been an epidemic of opioid addiction in Stronghold that's affecting each of its social stratas. I've been doing the same with other Eclipse staff as well, since the last thing we need is our smugglers and expeditionaries compromising us for a fix."

As to the matter of the physiotherapy being held in Étienne's own private quarters, Ian acquiesced with a nod of approval; if it allowed his patient to accept his treatment, then he had very few qualms with doing so on the Boss's terms. Just as the other man seemed to leave, he expressed a level of intrigue at the peculiar piece of advice the Vampire had given him. Étienne expressed that he had accepted that not everyone was going to be pleased with his tenure as Boss of Eclipse. As far as Ian was concerned, that was a good thing; it meant the younger man before him may already know that his actions will not please everyone, and that trying to do so is itself detrimental...and of course, the loose nature of the organisations hierarchy ensured that everyone would have their say in Eclipse's affairs.

"You're still growing into the role of the leader, but you find yourself faced with the mould left behind by your predecessor. My advice? Carve the mould more so that you yourself may fit it, whilst also keeping the parts that ensured the last Boss' success whilst casting out his failures.""

“Well, you don't have to be worried about that with me,” Étienne muses in response to Ian's worries about pill addiction, “I need all my wits about me anyway when out in the field.” That was all the other man needed to know, and Étienne wasn't about to give him much more than that. He places the box down beside him as he finally begins to shrug his shirt back on, now that he assumed the physical examination was over. He winces ever so slightly as he shrugs the shirt back on over his injured shoulder, but he simply chalks it up to being a little stiff from being poked and prodded for so long.

He listens quietly as the other man begins to speak about what he thought the current Boss should do to ensure his continued future as Boss, and Étienne lets out a little huff in response. It wasn't anything different than what he heard day in and day out by his advisors, constantly nagging him to look to the past to ensure the future and honestly the young man doesn't quite believe in such crap. If they had wanted someone that was going to actually think things through like that, then they shouldn't have chosen him when they did.

“If I wanted advice, doc, I'd go to my nosy advisors for that. They always seem to know what's best for me, after all,” he sighs as he speaks, rolling his eyes ever so slightly before he finally returns his gaze back to Ian again. It wasn't like he didn't listen to them at all, of course not. But Étienne also hated being nagged about everything. Paris was pretty good about that.

“Will that be all, or is there something else you wished to speak to me about?” he asks, wondering if there was another reason that Ian had wanted to see him that day. He had, after all, been gone on some kind of mission for a week... Or two... Étienne couldn't remember the time frame exactly. He just knew the man had been gone when he had first been injured, and that's why they had called in a specialist from Stronghold.

"Then at least understand that my advice comes from someone who isn't so invested in who rules the roost." Replied Ian with a slight shake of his head. "Hell, I'm only treasurr because no one else wanted the job...can't get any more neutral than that I believe."

Indeed, the Vampire knew all too well that most folks, even before the world ended, absolutely hated being the person who had to do such tedious work. Now, when much of the world's remaining population is back to being very hands-on in its approach, such roles have become even more hated and are often seen as waste of resources...and possibly akin to a parasite. Furthermore, given the fate of the last Treasurer, very few were eager to follow the road to oblivion, given the temptations that lie within.

"All I am saying is...shape the mould as you see fit. Keep the bits you know that fit, and then add to the bits that you believe need changing. We wouldn't want Eclipse to become as stagnant as the arseholes that run stronghole."

Then the matter that he himself needed to bring was given the opportunity to be aired. Personally, Ian thought it would be fairly lucrative, considering that it wasn't just the prospect of proftable fresh fish that was present here.

"Ah yes," he began as he reached for the small journal he had amassed for the job. Knowing all too well the kind of person Étienne was, the Doctor had taken care to make sure that contained the right amount of notes and intricate images with which to make reading less of a chore.I've spoken with the inhabitants of that fishing communty up north along the coast...the ones that live on the boats surrounding a heavily fortified former fishery. They are open to trading with us their wares...and perhaps give us further smuggling opportunities via the water. Perhaps with some greasing of the wheels, they might be wiling to help us extend our operations to accessable shipwrecks for our acquisitions."

Then there was the catch; there always was a catch, but sometimes, they happened to be rather fair as far as he was concerned.

"In return, they will be wanting Eclipse to supply them with the components to maintain their shipping fleets; I have jotted down the places where we can find such items in here, mostly old family boats and abandoned marinas from previous excursions that have been left untouched. Not only will this help us bring in more profit from Stronghold. because lets face it, God only knows what's been growing in those sewers, but it will also help Eclipse with our food stocks as well, provided we can store any fish we can acquire from the agreement properly."
