The boy looked piteous, snot and tears running down is face in rivers. Atlas couldn't even bare to look at him, for every time he did, anger flared black and blown in his eyes.

"Shut up!" Atlas growled, before throwing the boy into a wall on his left. The motion was short, for the hallway that they descended through was compact. Yet it was powerful enough where a sickening crack left a blue and purple blossom on the side of his face. The Ace's lip curled in displeasure as his captive's cries only grew louder.

He dug his hands back into the boys shoulder blade, long fingernails and all, earning another screech. Choosing to ignore the irritation that elicited from the shrieking, for the sake of reaching his target promptly, he continued down the corridor whilst dragging the boy behind him with vigorous ease.

For this was someone who still had his loyalties in question. Someone who's words poisoned the lower cards of the Spades, spread dissent and confusion and impeding Atlas' vision towards prosperity. At least, he thought the boy was, with what intel he had gathered in his newly minted gang. Should he have been lied to, and the boy was innocent, well, he would still make a potent example to the guilty.

His sentences were carried out publicly and without restraint. He had requested a few high card Spades members into his audience chambers, a temporary location deep within the sprawling undergrounds of the Crossroads. In that massive domed room, he approached the line of high cards that met him at his return.

They looked very much like prisoners, flanked by men he knew loyal to him, eyes glimmering with variances of defiance to fear. His ascent up the line was first hurried, then slowed, for there was one woman in particular he sought out. At her feet, he tossed that quivering boy. His long, claw-like fingernails came back painted in fresh blood.

"I believe you know this boy," Atlas stated, regarding her with cool, flinty eyes. "If not, then I would think you had quite the admirer, with how much he screamed your name while we... talked."

The cries and noises were audible in the big domed room. They echoed from the smaller rooms where the Ace had disappeared into into the bigger hall, and it almost seemed as if they lingered there far after the actual sounds had simmered down. Nox couldn't help but fidget with her nails as she stood there, other gang members towering over her at her side.

She wasn't entirely sure why she had been called here, but she did know it was bad. Her mind fluttered as she powder she had taken moments before being ushered into the room was starting to reach her system, making the screaming even more prominent and rattling in her skull - a side effect she hadn't fully anticipated.

Bouncing from her toes to her heel, she can feel the heavy hand of her guard on her shoulder digging into her muscle to make her stop. It snapped her out of her wavering thoughts as the new Ace made his way into the room, dragging some poor sod along.

Shit.

Shit shit shit. Nox can feel her chest tightening and her breath taking a hitch as she registers who exactly was being dragged along.

She had told him to keep his fucking mouth shut. Told him time and time again to just not give a flying fuck what the bosses did among themselves. And yet still he wouldn't fucking listen.

Nox' eyes fixate on her friend's face, feeling a knot in her stomach at how he already looked now - knowing very well this was only the beginning of how fucked up he would end up getting over this.

She wanted to scream. Yell at her friend for being an idiot, and punch that new blonde haired gross looking asshole in the face for already getting her friend to these inches away from death. In stead she trailed her gaze back up, staring into the void as her mind raced. It was hard to ignore all of this, though, when she found her friend whimpering at her feet and icy eyes peering into hers as the Ace stood before her.

"I do have a lot of admirers." The quip was perhaps not fully well placed, yet it was all Nox could utter as the rush of coke and adrenaline got her system into all stages of high alert. She hadn't missed the blood dripping or the gurgling noises coming from the young man at her feet, but she also knew that it was all the same old fucking scare tactics that many had pushed down her throat in years before.

He should have taken her face, head and all, in one hand and crushed it. Should have sunk his fangs, peeking from his gums at the scent of fresh blood, into that delectable, virgin neck. Instead, he met her gaze, expression enigmatic, ponderful. Then he chuckled, as if entertained by her spirit.

"I see. You're one of the more coddled sewer rats, then." Unacknowledging that he too was a Spades, had been for a good five months. He felt no comradery with gang members lined before him, for there was one thing they lacked- hunger at the sight of a human. They saw a row of prisoners and wondered what crime could have landed them there, what emotions could be stirring behind eyes glassy with fear or fiery with defiance. Atlas wondered on how sweetly they would taste, and ponder the philosophy behind blood types and flavor.

His fingers flexed, reclining out of his balled fists that he inadvertently held in his anger. "In that case, it's wonderful that I've brought a fan to your attention." His gaze steeled down at the man, who was shivering from blood loss. A humorless smile quirked at the corner of his lips, more menacing than entertained. "Hear that? Your hero's here, standing in the flesh before you."

Then, tilted his head up, his eyes glimmering darkly with the suggestion of his next maneuver. He tapped his chin, an action of showy contemplation rather than instinct. "However, there's just one thing you're missing. One thing to set you apart from these denizens and cement you as worthy of admiration."

In a smooth, unhurried motion, he drew something out of his overcoat. It shinned in the way that suggested it was newly minted, untouched. Whatever light filtered through the high dome and scattered on the group in some demented form of an angel's ray was captured by it, illuminating it in the shape of a pistol. He took her wrist and slipped it into her hand, the force behind the act suggesting that she close her fingers around it and take it.

"They say the difference between a villain and a hero is that a villain would sacrifice the world to save one person." He stepped back, leaving the personal sphere to just Nox and the marked man. "A hero, however, would sacrifice one person to save the world."

He crossed his arms, looking inquisitively at her, like it were a genuine question in an intimate dialogue. "So Nox. Are you a hero?" The suggestion clear in his gaze, his voice: This man before you is your sacrifice.
