gabrian's recurring fling To get a full look at the terrain, Gabrian de Corleone is a Level V Patient Zero who got married to his high school sweetheart at 18 years old after they found that she was pregnant when they were 17. However he effectively lost both his wife Yolene and his daughter Monique when he was Infected. He plunged into oblivion in February 2010, making it seem like he didn't return from the Marines and/or abandoned them. When he came back to his senses to find that several decades passed, he was devastated. It left him burned, and now there is a void he has a difficult time filling.

Kian Hendricks is the type of person to be able to find good in the bad, and sometimes in the most inappropriate ways and/or times. That's partly what drew Gabrian in, because the man is pretty much the opposite of him. Gabrian fondly calls Kian "Keys", and they met in Stronghold when Gabrian was on a mission to smuggle out some weapons from Stronghold. It was passing meeting, but he ended up meeting again and it slowly escalated to a planned-out routine. He knows about Gabrian having and losing a wife and child but not the specifics about how he lost them, given that he doesn't yet know that he's Infected. Keys probably teases and gets on Gabrian a lot about Gabe using the geographical distance between them as a shield.
