Brooklyn is the second born daughter (London and Brooklyn are fraternal twins) of an inner citadel woman who was the mistress of a military officer. When he died her, her mom and elder sibling were left penny-less and shoved off for the outer citadel. While her sister ultimately became the primary breadwinner Brooklyn looked for her own way to make cash for her family, asking a family friend to teach her everything he knew about fixing things. Once he shared with her a story about machines that people used to drive everywhere she became determined to find one, take it apart and see how it worked. Mechanic knowledge was hard to come by, and Brooklyn picked all the brains she could to find out what made an engine tick. Brooklyn is happy to now live back in the inner citadel, all the closer to her dream of getting at a car, but she has mixed feelings on her sister marrying a stranger as well as being surrounded by rich snobs.
