SCOUT x GABRIAN [ BLOOD MOON ]

Tonight was supposed to be just an ordinary lunar eclipse.

But something’s different this time around. The full moon is already high in the sky.
Clouds shroud it from sight one minute, and the next they’re gone, revealing the moon to
no longer be its usual white light, but rather something much more sinister. As though
bathed in blood, its reddish hue gives off a frightening appearance.

It’s a blood moon.

It's a late night at the Junkyard.

Military specialist Scout Gadsby has recently been ordered out past the walls of Stronghold, to scout out the area that the Military believe Eclipse has their headquarters located. Upon reaching what appears to be their camp, she runs into a member of Eclipse, Gabrian de Corleone, leaving for a mission. Being outside of Stronghold, with no buildings to block out the sky, they're given ample warning before the blood moon suddenly reaches its zenith. An Infected horde can be heard from far off, but danger reaches their doorstep far before that.

A pack of three Reapers, practically unheard of, approach the Junkyard's front gates. Normally creatures that lay in wait before striking, these appear to not have any sense of danger as they approach the human settlement. Eyes wild and teeth barred, it's clear their taste for humans has amplified to a frenzy, and they seem no longer willing to simply turn. They're here to kill.

The Reapers must be taken care of before they breach Eclipse's walls...

Whenever Gabrian had a mission, he liked to sketch things out, usually the mission itself or similar ones. He knew that things almost never go exactly as planned, but at when he sketched it out, it helped him garner focus so that he could fully get into his role in missions. It also helps him better think on his toes when something does veer off from the script. When he got finished with that, he had some time to kill before he went out and he had grown an appetite, so he slipped away for a small while so that he could grab a quick bite from a feeder. Couldn't do a mission on an empty stomach! ...But if he could, he'd starve himself because of all the blood that he must have spilled.

Gabrian made sure to make it back in time so that he could see to it that things are in order for the mission and to make sure the few coming along was prepared. A lunar eclipse was upon them, whenever he saw once, he would think about the stories of big bad werewolves and vampyres that he would hear about when he was younger. Nothing glamourised, no romance, just the sheer horror. And he couldn't help but think about how that must have been him, along with many other Infected.

But he tried to shake off his self-loathing so that he could do his job. He would have told his people to prepare to leave, Gabrian started to feel a certain deep-seated discomfort, along with some agitation. It didn't feel...right. He told them to hold while he went out and got himself together again, of course with protection and aid. He wasn't stupid.

It was open land compared to Stronghold, so his eyes were trained over the area. It take long before he caught a figure. He caught a scent...but it wasn't familiar. With narrowed eyes, he stalked. "Who the fuck are you?" he asked when within earshot.

Having been named Scout for a reason, whether that was because Ross (her guardian) didn't have a creative bone in his body -- or because that was all her worth to him, remained to be seen. If she had to guess, it was a bit of both really. Regardless, the military specialist was called forward to live up to her namesake and check out what was rumored to be an Eclipse camp. But not just any site, their headquarters. She was sent alone, which was what she preferred. Scout had realized early on that having to drag a team only slowed her down... granted, this felt like it was meant for a higher pay grade. Verifying such a major location that belonged to one of their strongest adversaries? It was a big deal, and Scout wasn't sure if they'd sent her because she was good or because she was replaceable. Her confidant exterior would never give rise or hint to that slight to her pride.

She wasn't in a position to decline though. Not with what was going on behind the scenes of her personal life. As Scout moved through the dense woods, she pulled the multicam patterned scarf taunt around her neck, covering a pair of bitemarks that was the cause of all of her woes. If the military had any inkling just how replaceable she was, this would of make complete sense. To send someone doomed to become a ravaging infected within several weeks time. They didn't know, and as far as Scout was concerned, they never would. Her plan was coming together, it was only a matter of time before she acted on it.

Scout had kept things light tonight. She carried her rifle (military issued) and her side arm (non-issued), but didn't wear her uniform. In fact, the only things that was camouflaged was the scarf, the rest of her was covered in black: head to toe. After breaching a series of trees, she came to a clearing, and there set what she believed to be the junkyard in question. Pulling out her compass, she confirmed direction before tucking it back into her pocket.

This was … unexpected. Scout would of never assumed the rebellion would hide themselves away in such a cleared area. In her minds eye she visualized a camp in the woods; hidden completely. It was smart though, she would hand them that. It made sneaking up on them almost impossible. Scout circled around, staying beneath the darker shade of the treeline until she caught site of a gate. That was an entrance, but she was unsure if it were the only one.

She had planned to make a complete trip around the perimeter, noting any flaws, all exits, locales of hides, and so on... but the moonlight was abnormally bright, she peered up, realizing it was a full moon; tinged red. No excuses, she thought to herself, that's what her superiors would say. She moved closer, staying low to the ground and closing the gap between her and their walls. She was on the dark side of it, where the wall made it's own shadow thanks to the red moon. In that interlude, someone came out. She couldn't believe her bad luck... or maybe she could.

Scout froze, hands on her rife, but kept her finger off the trigger -- for now. "Just a drifter... me and my family are up across the way. We're newly neighbors. Thought I'd come and introduce myself." she lied on her feet, feigning this outgoing, family-girl façade. "Do you all trade?" she asked after a moment, trying to keep her tone light and harmless.

Something about tonight...it just didn't feel right. The mission they were going to do was a big one. They were going out for a weapons smuggle run—from Stronghold. Gabrian had done all the planning prior with some of his guys and got the "Okay" from higher up. But now...he was having second thoughts. With every mission came some feeling of it possibly falling through and having to improvise, but the way Gabrian felt was different. And he knew something was wrong because he was much more disciplined than this. He'd been a Marine once, before he broke off from "pack" all those years ago. Strategy and control wasn't new to him. What was new was the itchy agitation inside him that could compromise his focus.

To add to it, his focus was being shifted to someone who really had no business being there, especially at this time of night. Gabrian shifted to a defensive stance, his hand going to his hip, touching a covered and holstered gun. It was dark, but seeing in the dark had been an advantage for a while now. The woman went on to explain who she was, but Gabrian hardly bought. No matter the story, he was highly irritated in general and wanted her away from camp. She was the least of his worries, he was starting to feel.

Pulling his gun quickly, he aimed at her, his posture still. "Great. You've introduced yourself, and I'll pass the message. Unfortunately, we're not arranging trade at butt fuck o'clock, so stop by later, yeah?" Suddenly, his irritation started to morph into something else...hunger. It was foreign—he had already fed. He lowered his head a little to hide his eyes, knowing that they must have betrayed him. And with forced words, he said, "You need to leave."
