KILLIAN x CROWLEY [ BLOOD MOON ]

Tonight was supposed to be just an ordinary lunar eclipse.

But something’s different this time around. The full moon is already high in the sky.
Clouds shroud it from sight one minute, and the next they’re gone, revealing the moon to
no longer be its usual white light, but rather something much more sinister. As though
bathed in blood, its reddish hue gives off a frightening appearance.

It’s a blood moon.

It's a late night in the City Outskirts.

Bounty hunter Killian McCaffrey ventures out of Stronghold that night in order to complete a hit. A man has taken residence near Rossdale Port, one that apparently angered the spouse they left- enough for them to seek out their death. However when Killian arrives at the scene, he finds his target dead and Crowley Wilde bent over the corpse, bloody hands and maw digging into the corpse's flesh.

For Crowley finds himself at the mercy of his feral, Infected instincts. His fangs had been forced out, eyes glowing menacing and yellow and human consciousness battling animal hunger. The man had not been special to Crowley, or known to him for that matter- he was simply at the wrong place, at the wrong time. A bounty hunter facing the man who killed his target; an Level V Infected at the mercy of the blood moon and his own hunger

Will they both go back home empty handed? Or will they seek to fill their need for vengeance and flesh?

It was all just bad timing.

Running into the stranger in the near dark of the night. An offer to stay for a bite to eat — accepted, even though he no longer fed on such things for sustenance. Staying way past when he should have left and headed back to his own camp. But Crowley was, for lack of a better word, starved for socialization. Besides time spent back at home with his best friend, Blue, he was usually on his own, scouting the lands and trying to figure out how best they could make their way inside the large city that he now knew was called Stronghold. So when he ran across a drifter that night, who seemed all too willing to spend some time with him, Crowley was quick to accept. Something at the back of his mind warned him it was a bad idea, but he liked talking too much to turn the man down.

Unfortunately for the two of them, they soon realized was a mistake it had been. Chatting deep into the night, they were still awake when the blood moon hit overhead, bathing the world in a supernatural red. Crowley feels as the crimson lunar eclipse tugs at the darker side of him, bringing out the monster to play. Fangs slip from the sheathes of his gums, eyes bleed gold as he descends upon the man without a second thought.

The man that is Crowley descends into a pit of despair, watching what happens as though it's an out of body experience for him — in many ways, it's very akin to such a thing. His mind does its best to shield him from what comes next, but he can feel the way his fangs slip so easily into the man's flesh, like a steak knife through butter. Blood wells up from the wounds and fills his mouth, relieving him of the eternal thirst that haunts him. He can hear the man screaming beneath him, struggling vainly against the predator that now holds him in his grasp. But he ignores the pitiful blows that fall against his body — the nails, that scrape and cut as the drifter fights for his life.

Newly mutated, but Crowley was an apex predator through and through. He'd latched on to the man's jugular vein immediately, causing the life to leave the man even quicker than normal. Slowly his fight begins to leave him as Crowley ravages his neck, tearing skin asunder and throwing himself further and further into his hunger. He's so focused on his meal, that he doesn't even hear anyone else approach the pair of them.

Killian hardly ever enjoyed his kills. That was the one thing Charlie McCaffrey had hammered into the psyche of his two children- death should never be relished. That was how one lost their humanity- that was how someone became one of those things.

That did not mean Killian did not feel for his contract killings, especially if they were living, breathing humans. For this one, he felt a small sliver of pity, in that they'd rather brave the infested wilds than the sanctuary of Stronghold. Perhaps they grew tired of the Military breathing down their backs, as Killian had found irritable the last few years of his residence- or they'd found life with their spouse monotonous, tiresome, and longed for lethal excitement. From what the bounty had promised, the Citadel woman fighting back tears from spilling, it was the utmost betrayal and one that deserved the ultimate punishment.

With humans, it was always a lot more complicated than Infected, a lot more feelings involved- and that was why Killian rarely took these contracts. It was only the wealth promised at the fulfillment of the bounty that spurred Killian outside of Stronghold walls, revolver in hand, gray overcoat hung over his strong shoulders. Let her tears turn into Killian's gold.

From evidence gathered from the note the mark had left, he sought to take residence somewhere in the city outskirts, to "think" over their relationship and his existence within Stronghold. Further investigation pinpointed the mark at the old port. To further solidify the target's death sentence, his inexperience with outside life was apparent in the trail he'd left- evidence of his struggle to keep alive under overhung roofs and dilapidated shipping containers.

The silvery light of moon guided Killian's steps. He knew Infected would be active, but was more than sure of his capability to deal with them- either to subdue a lone hunter or whisk himself away at the sight of them. That was, until the moon turned red and his surroundings took an eerie, scarlet glow to them. Something was wrong and Kill clicked the safety off his gun, yet his purpose remained clear in his mind.

He was sure he'd found the man's nesting sight. He was sure he had him trapped, in the chokehold camping site he chose. Killian walked with the shadows, keeping his steps light and quiet, though with a confidence that denoted he was dealing with a human, not an Infected, with their lessened senses. Only to find someone else had gotten to his mark.

The man laid unmoving, sprawled and bloody, so bloody, under a bent human figure. The figure jerked the spastic movements of a hungered predator, and Killian would have slipped away then had his foot not banged against an upturned cooking pot on his way out. At the clang, Killian instinctively brought his gun up, pointed at the feasting man- creature.

"What the hell are you doing to him?" Killian demanded, still unsure of who or what was before him.
