Micah hated collaboration. That old saying - if you want to go fast, go alone - if you want to go far, go together - did not apply to him. In his opinion, he went faster and farther by himself. Without the burden of having to communicate his complex, ever-changing stream of consciousness, to wonder whether the other scientist was keeping up and understood the terms and concepts he droned about. Very few scientists understood Micah, and there were a couple that he could tolerate for the sole fact that they stayed well out of his research.

The only man that had kept up with him thus far was Jonah, and damn did Micah hate it.

So, when his boss stated that he had to collaborate with someone for his next project, he ensured that it was not Jonah, or another senior scientist that had too much to say and too little to show for it. Rather, he requested someone from the Department of Agriculture to study the effects of the DraC-2 on crop life, and if there was a chance for the virus to mutate into a plant pathogen.

The Department sent a scientist named Linden Arcangeli to work with him. Micah was bad with names (or rather, he never bothered to remember them), but the surname Arcangeli was hard to ignore. From what Micah had heard, they were famous soil and agriculture scientists who owned Terrane, the older generation of which had worked with Micah's parents.

Micah never got himself involved with the politics of it, and just because the man had that last name did nothing to dissuade Micah from how he wanted this meeting to go. When the young man arrived in the conference room they were scheduled to meet at, Micah hardly raised his eyes from his current manuscript. A very lengthy project, years in the making, about DraC-2's interaction with other viruses, namely the common cold.

"Arcangeli?" he asked, his long fingers typing at his terminal, with no other indication that he noticed the man's arrival.

Flower power was at its finest as he was tasked (voluntold) to attend a collaboration meeting with Micha Scofield of Cypher. Whatever face he made got the back of his head smacked, and he was forced to gather various data that had been collected for decades. Taking over the research of his great-grandfather and grandfather in hopes that someday, they could expand past Stronghold.

"Let's get this over with," muttered Linden and made sure to grab one of the tablets that could access his work. It wasn't long before his shoulder bag was packed to the point it was hard to zip up. Opting to carry his snack pack because who knows how long this would last. The last thing he needed was to get angry or hazy.

Upon being escorted to the conference room, Linden knocked and entered. Seeing a young man staring intently at a screen while fingers typed away.

"Arcangeli?"

"Scofield?" He asked back and walked over to an empty chair and sat down. Setting his snack pack off to the side while beginning to remove folders out of his satchel alphabetically based on locations and firing up the tablet with a notepad and pen by his side.

"Anyways, since we are both here," reaching for his snack pack and unzipping it. "Are you an apple and carrots kind of guy? Seed bread? Made it this morning. Oh, and don't worry, I'm fully prepared and it just depends on what it is you want to know and I may have some answers for you."

The message was sent off with a pleasant swoosh. There - one more of a long chain of unread comms. As said - Micah hated collaborating. And sending every little project update to his supervisor was the least of his priority.

It was monotony, a distraction of the most trivial kind, as he scrolled through his comms, waiting for the other scientist to take their seat. That was, until he paused his scrolling to read "Dr. Scofield" on one comm's header line. It was research he was, aggravatingly, not a part of - research that his brother frequently bragged about. The fact that they did not even distinguish between the brothers - that Jonah was implied to be the Dr. Scofield, not Micah - caused a hard line to form between his brows.

The sound of a snack bag unzipping snapped him out of his skulking. His eyes trailed from the terminal's screen to where Arcangeli sat, reaching into his bag. Micah was admittedly hungry. His bouts of intense research often meant neglecting basic bodily needs, and seeing the fresh vegetables and hunk of bread reminded him that all he had had that morning was two cups of black coffee. But that sense of danger, the one that flared whenever someone attempted to get close to him, caused him to shake his head.

"I'm interested in whatever helps us complete this research," he replied stiffly. He straightened from his hunched position over the terminal, indicating his shift in attention to the other scientist, and away from that annoying message. He pulled the manila envelope resting beside his terminal closer to him, and drew out the decently thick project proposal

"Well, as you know, we are working on investigating the interaction between DraC-2 and crop life. I figured we could put our heads together as experts from each respective field and determine whether this will be a threat our not."

Micah slid the proposal to Dr. Arcangeli. "I've written a proposal that's been approved by my department. It details the potential scope of our project and a design. Please, read it over and let me know what you think."

The scientist's eyes bored onto Dr. Arcangeli as he used his forefinger and thumb to adjust the frame of his glasses - as if daring the opposing researcher to find fault with his extensive work. Micah was meticulous, detail-oriented, and he made sure that he'd have an argument for whatever criticism the other put forth. "Constructive crticism" didn't exist in Micah's world.
